social media: Making Decisions about My Social Media Usage for 2011 - 12/14/10 02:11 PM
The year 2010 was an interesting one, to say the least. Government tax incentives and a flurry of buyers making moves the first half of the year led the way to a solemn lull as only the most serious and ready buyers continued to shop the real estate market after the removal of the tax incentives.
For me, I've come to embrace the top social media activities as those I prefer to use, and let loose those that were too time consuming with little to no return.  Blogging was one I chose to diminish, and I only use my blog when I … (0 comments)

social media: "Social Media Revolution" Youtube Video, a Great One! - 11/03/09 10:13 AM
If you haven't already watched this video on the impact of Social Media on our world, it's one to watch. Having gone viral long ago, I heard about this video time and time again as it got posted onto Facebook, distributed on Twitter, and received tons of comments on Youtube.
The use of video like this one always intrigues me as I watch and wonder what it is about this one in particular that really gets my adrenaline rushing. I watch this one and get "hyper" about social media, was it the music, the speed of delivery, the numbers, or more likely the … (9 comments)

social media: Do what's fun while you're at it! - 07/09/09 12:48 PM
I often get asked which social media tool one should use over another.  (For a list of common social media sites, scroll down below).   There are so many reasons why it's important to implement several social media tools in your marketing plan, but sometimes too much can be ...well, too much.
I enjoy blogging because I've always kept a journal.  My entire life is in 17 little journals I've kept year after year.  It started when I was in Jr. High.  Needless to say, when I have something to say, I enjoy writing it.
For others, Twitter is nice because it's short, quick … (0 comments)

social media: My business card must change it's face! - 06/29/09 09:58 AM
I've often handed over my business card this year feeling it just didn't serve the purpose I wanted it to serve. Going online to order new custom business cards I learned that other people are running into this very same thought. It leads me to the concept of the business cards for social media users. And so I begin my quest of plea to Better Homes and Gardens for a template designed for me to add some of the following information:
My Twitter handle My blog address My Linkedin account My Website Cell phone Fax number Office address Email address The reasoning behind this is, every … (18 comments)

social media: Using Twitter for Prospecting - 06/25/09 10:50 AM
I recently attended REBarCamp in Boston, MA where I was finally surrounded by other Realtors who are "getting it" or at least, trying real hard to "get it". What am I talking about? Social media of course.
My favorite break out session of the day was on Twitter. Presenters were Twitter's "Twitterqueens" who gave a great basic introduction and examples of how Twitter can be applied.  I left there with a new perspective on using Twitter.
After the presentation I decided to qualify who I follow a bit better, and to seek out people from my region more proactively through searches. I … (5 comments)

social media: Work harder, work smarter, communicate where you can- in this market - 05/15/09 09:47 AM
I've been selling real estate for 8 years in the Monadnock Region, NH and this past year I actually didn't do so bad at all, but I've never worked so hard and so smart in my life.
Transactions are so complicated that, unless you can coach people through and help them see the final outcome is still attainable, it is easy for buyers and sellers to want to quit when it just gets too tough to handle.
To help buyers and sellers deal with the impact of a potential roller coaster ride they are sometimes on, my main focus is on … (1 comments)

social media: In support of businesses using social media... - 04/28/09 09:33 AM
I just went to a pediatric appointment with my son at Cheshire Medical in Keene, NH. Our pediatrician was curious about my degree at Antioch. Her inquiry led to an offering to join a committee involving parents and staff. One of their goals is to figure out what social media is all about and how to implement it to connect with their patients.  I begin to see how it can be used in their organization as I spoke with her and I handed her my contact information.
Point is, major businesses and organizations are "getting it" or trying to "figure it … (5 comments)

social media: Social media and my clients: A great rapport builder - 04/16/09 08:01 PM
Something great has happened since I've started my blog, people who read it already know me- or so it seems when we first meet. Sometimes it actually takes me a little by surprised how open they are from the start. Whatever happened to developing rapport for trust? Much of it has already occured when they took some time to read what I've written online.
People are looking for ways to connect. By providing a little insight to the world about my interests, hobbies, and about interesting news or knowledge about my industry I give readers a reason to connect.
I was recently asked what … (3 comments)

social media: RE BarCamp Boston here I come! - 03/31/09 05:10 AM
There couldn't be a better time for an event like RE BarCamp to take place.  It's quickly gained popularity is no surprise to me, given the Obama culture of transparency, sharing ideas and collaboration.  At a time when several Realtors are "getting it" and using social media, so many others are unclear about what the Web 2.0 world is all about.
I think attending RE BarCamp will be an eye opener for anyone, at any level in their understanding about how technology and real estate are coming together through social media.  The idea of working together as independent agents is important … (0 comments)

social media: How do you write a blog- the basics to get you started - 03/18/09 08:13 AM
I've been asked by people in the community about how to begin writing a blog. I'll post some basics, though practice is really essential and you'll see why.  You can start one on Activerain, Wordpress, Blogger, among others. Do a google search and see where you'd like to get started. You can also start by responding to blogs that you read. Creating your own blog is not for everyone.
Developing a voice
This takes a bit of time. Read other blogs about interesting topics whether it be about knitting or about Legos, about Real Estate or about Mortgages. Everyone's first blogs … (6 comments)

social media: Is Social Media Marketing Right for Your Organization? - 01/28/09 01:27 PM
I've gone onto Activerain.com to see how real estate companies are using social media strategies in combination with their websites. I'm also putting together a workshop locally around the question: "Is Social Media Marketing Right for Your Organization?"
I've run into several people locally, business owners, who are beginning to ask this question, but don't know enough about it, nor do they have the tech skills or time to figure it out. It does take some time, but once you get the ball rolling, it's easy and takes very little time.  Other organizations are hiring this duty out as a new form of marketing … (0 comments)

social media: We should all be on www.linkedin.com !! - 11/07/08 10:33 AM
I have been doing research on social media, interactive technologies, and communication (aka: the new rules of marketing) and attended a workshop about social medial that could particularly benefit all of us in the professional world. It's about www.Linkedin.com...
What is www.LinkedIn.com?Simply, it's the  www.Facebook.com for professionals' social networking.
Using www.linkedin.com  regularly and strategically will:1. Help us all connect to one another professionally, to each other's 1st and 2nd degree professional resources, and open up a pool of knowlege each of us can use in our business lives.
2. Drive traffic to you and your site indirectly, using soft selling strategies which … (1 comments)

social media: Real Time, Real-time, Realtime.. - 09/19/08 11:26 AM
We are moving into the real-time world and, as Realtors, our job is to figure out how to provide the services we do on "real-time" terms.
I purchased the Motorola Q from US Cellular last year. Though I live in the Monadnock Region of southwestern, NH and reception is not always great, I can now function on a full time basis while spending some quality time with my family and children.
How else can we operate in real time? Do I dare say that some agents still don't use the internet on a daily basis? I've run into this around my … (1 comments)
