Does It Get Any Better? - 02/18/10 11:40 PM
I have been helping busier, more experienced agents by taking their buyers out when the agents are unavailable. Today I was called on to take some buyers out for a series of second showings. The buyers were a lovely couple who were looking for an "in-town" condo in the South Loop.  We spent the morning visiting several buildings in Museum Park.
Here in Chicago we've had an exceptionally long string of overcast days.  Most of our South Loop showings are in lakefront condos with spectacular views.  Lately those views couldn't really be appreciated.  But today was a different story.  It … (9 comments)

Half-price, no coupon needed - 02/17/10 09:20 PM
Is this a good time to buy?  Are there still deals out there? These are the questions I heard most often in 2009 and I expect to hear frequently 2010.  There are definitely deals to be found, and at all price points.
Local sportscaster and former player with the Chicago Bears, Tom Waddle, just got an excellent deal.  When he says he purchased his north suburban Lake Forest home for "half price", he's not kidding!  Last week, Mr. Waddle and his wife purchased their new home for $3.25 million, which is 48% of the October 2008 asking price.  But that is … (6 comments)

From Shake & Bake to Snow & Shake - 02/10/10 08:00 PM
I spent my college years in Southern California and when we had several back-to-back days of very hot weather, say in the 100's, we would sometimes have an earthquake during the heatwave.  Meteorologists and Geologists said there was no correlation, but it happened frequently enough to earn the name "Shake and Bake."
Yesterday, here in the Chicagoland area, we had a blizzard and what do you know?  Overnight, an earthquake!  While I was on the West Coast, I sort of got used to Shake and Bake.  (Well, not really, but you know what I mean.)  This week, the Midwest experienced … (2 comments)

Gift Card Giver Party - 02/07/10 12:13 AM
These are exceptionally challenging times.  Many people want to help others in need but find that their own resources are strained as well.  When we add creativity to our desire to help others, we can find additional ways to do so. Recently, my friends at Overflow Coffee here in the South Loop hosted a Gift Card Giver Party and I thought I'd share the idea.
You can donate any type of gift card . . .

. . . as long as there is still some dollar value remaining on it.

The cards are collected … (4 comments)

A Community Is Built One Home At A Time - 02/06/10 11:33 PM
"A community is built one home at a time."
I just love that expression.  I heard it today while at a training session.  I am beginning a six week training to be a docent at the Glessner House Museum.  John and Sarah Glessner built their home on South Prairie Avenue, in what is now known as the South Loop.  In the late 1800's-early 1900's, an address on South Prairie Avenue, between 18th and 21st Streets was the address to have for prominent families of the day.  Over the years, the Glessner House has been a family residence, an off-site classroom facility … (2 comments)
