Do buyers need real estate agents? - 03/29/11 03:54 PM

Buying a home is an exciting time.  As exciting as it is, buyers will often tell me that they did not realize what a job the buying process is.   In her post, Do buyers need real estate agents?, Kathleen Moriarty explains how a buyer's agent uses their market knowledge and professional network to simplify the process of getting you into your dream home.

In one of my recent blogs (http://activerain.com/blogsview/2193545/do-real-estate-salespeople-make-tons-of-money-), I debunked the myth that real estate professionals are millionaires.  However, salespeople are paid a commission to do whatever … (4 comments)

Please join me in welcoming Tracey Weaver to Active Rain - 03/24/11 09:09 PM
Hi everyone,
One of the fun things about this community is that when we see a title that references the post is the writer's first AR post, members make sure to welcome them.  In this new member's case, I missed her first post and apparently many others did as well.  She has followed up with a second post, questioning whether anyone actually saw her first post.  The second post is Members Only so I won't link to it.  Instead, I will just ask that all readers of this post, head over and give a rousing ActiveRain welcome to Dallas, TX Realtor … (12 comments)

South Loop Residents and Small Business Owners Gather for Social Media 101 - 03/19/11 11:53 PM
Today was the monthly meeting of The Greater South Loop Association.  The theme for this month's meeting was Social Media 101 for Business Owners, presented by guest speaker Blagica Bottigliero.  Ms. Bottigliero focused on 3 popular social media platforms, Facebook, Twitter and Four Square.  She stressed that business owners should take advantage of social media to connect with the community, promote their brand and build their database.   I was familiar with Facebook and Twitter before this morning's meeting, but I confess to not knowing how or why people become the mayor of a certain location.  Yes, I am a Four … (5 comments)

An Appointment Is A Commmitment, Not A Maybe - 03/14/11 07:25 PM
Dear Renter,
You called me for an appointment to see a condo for lease.  I made the appointment with the listing agent and confirmed with you.  Since there was a tenant there, we were given a window of time between 11-1, but after 1:00 we could not have access.  You chose noon.  At noon I waited for you there.  And I waited, and I waited.  Since you do not have a cellphone, I called an alternate number for you.  Your aunt answered and was surprised that you were not there.  She said she would try to find out where you were.  … (62 comments)

I Missed the Party - 03/04/11 09:59 PM
Looks like I missed a pretty good party today.  It's been a busy week, so the occasion for it almost slipped by me unnoticed.  Although to be honest, unless there is a major event, good or bad, I don't usually pay much attention to the news until the late evening news.  While scanning my email this evening, I see there is a momentous occasion happening here in Chicago today.  It's the Second City's big 1-7-4.  Yep, that's right, 174 years ago, the city of Chicago was born [incorporated] along the banks of Lake Michigan.
The Chicago History Museum celebrated with … (9 comments)
