Seller's Remorse - A Story of Love & Hate - 09/30/07 05:11 PM
Little did she know when she finally decided to sell within days she'd come to regret it.
One day the hope and joy of a vibrant, domesticated life is in her hand and the next she's forsaken it to move on to greener pastures; bigger pastures, smaller pastures, no pasture - an asphalt jungle.
The reality of the choice wakes people up in the middle of the night and stings bad enough to leave a bad taste in your mouth like you put a 9 volt battery to your tongue.  What makes someone have the emotional 180 after the've made the choice.  … (25 comments)

Some Symbols Are Bad For Business - 09/28/07 05:35 PM
Two days ago I was driving through a gated community in Bonita Springs, Florida and passed a lawn maintenance truck with a Southern Cross license plate on the front bumper of his truck.  My stomach turned.  It bothered me enough to say it out loud.  Say what?  "I'd never hire that guy to mow my yard because he's stupid enough to think that's cool".  I am not a huge fan of being "P.C." just to be P.C. but the darn thing bothers me.
The Confederate battle flag, called the "Southern Cross" or the cross of St. Andrew. It's described now,  as a proud emblem … (42 comments)

Vanderbilt Beach Naples Florida - 09/28/07 04:00 PM
Even when the sun isn't out, it's still beautiful.  This photo was taken on Vanderbilt Beach, Naples, Florida at the site where Delnor Wiggins Pass State Park entry gate is located and the new Moraya Bay Tower Condominium is being built.  There are miles of beach heading north to Wiggins Pass that is all preserve and protected from development.  It's a must see when you visit the area.

Aroma Carpet, Bonita Springs Saved My Bacon - 09/27/07 01:48 PM
I'm a lucky ducky.  A few weeks ago I had carpet cleaned at one of my Estero real estate listings.  It had an odor that proved to not be a pet, after ultra violet testing.  Aroma Carpet came to me as a referral from a fellow KW agent in my office.  Everything went well and the house smells great!
The bacon saving came just a few days ago.  A listing I had was cleaned but the carpets just looked soiled and worn.  I recalled how nice the cleaned carpets looked in the last listing Aroma cleaned for me so I called them.  It was 8:00 p.m. … (7 comments)

Moraya Bay Update - Naples, Florida - 09/26/07 08:36 PM

If you're under contract to purchase a unit at Moraya Bay or you're watching and waiting for progress reports, this is it.  There isn't a whole bunch happening at the site, but ground has been broken and the concrete is being poured.
For those who may not know, the Vanderbilt Inn is no longer.  It has been demolished to make way for Moraya Bay, a luxury high rise condominium tower.
The building is located near Delnor Wiggins Pass State Park.   With the Gulf of Mexico steps from the building the primary focus is the beach and stunning sunsets.
Additional amenities include an 18 hole golf … (2 comments)

Warning: Do NOT Feed The Apes - 09/24/07 04:53 PM
Today while driving down Bonita Beach Road I nearly passed Safari Golf before I swooped in for a picture.  Oh, the memories...
How many birthday parties and family nights have Bonitians spent here?  I know my family has nearly worn out the course.
The last party we had at Safari Golf (when I was on the verge of being on the outside looking in at teenager-dom) was a birthday party. I guess the kids were about 13 or 14.  They were embarassed by my plan...at first.
We loaded up all the kids from the party and hit the course at Safari Golf.  … (22 comments)

Bonita Springs Arts District - 09/24/07 07:19 AM
While the Bonita Springs and Estero areas await the completion of the Arts District it's important to note the other venues that offer the arts and entertainment.
Most notably, The Naples Philharmonic Center - Daniels Pavilion more commonly know to locals at "The Phil" and Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall.  Bonita Springs is located dead center between the two venues.
The fall season for performing arts is just kicking off.  Tickets are available online and at the box office for a variety of shows, concerts, ballet and acts.
Personally, I've had the opportunity to attend performances at both Halls.  At The Phil … (3 comments)

Hallelujah!  We're on the cusp of entering October and we've not seen a storm yet!  If you're not familiar, June through November is prime storm (hurricane) season in the southeast.  A few years back we took a beating down here in Bonita Springs, Florida.  Well, this year we had a reprieve; a well earned respite from tropical winds.
The fact of the matter is Southwest Florida  and the Bonita Springs area has enjoyed a long history of very few storms.  What?!  Southwest Florida has actually seen fewer storms than most of the Southeast.  Take a look at this hurricane history map.  Bonita … (11 comments)

Pelican Landing's Lakes & Ponds - 09/21/07 04:57 AM
Aquatic plant control.  It's hotter than heck here part of the year and our lakes and ponds need maintained to not get out of control.  I'm sure there are some that are "exotic" and have to be removed, too.
I see the aquatic trucks and boats all over Bonita Springs, but I never knew what they did.  They're those little flat bottom fishing boats with shallow drafts, like a Carolina Skiff.
Well, I still don't actually know what they do ... still.
What I do know is that "Lake Guy" backed his truck and boat to the side of a lake in Pelican … (4 comments)

The Niftiest Carrabba's Restaurant - Bonita Springs, Florida - 09/20/07 04:10 PM
Right on US 41 Tamiami Trail in Bonita Springs, Florida is the Carrabba's Restaurant.  It's just across the street from Bonita Bay.
You can pass it easily.  It's totally covered with plants and trees.  When they were building it about 4 or 5 years ago I never thought they'd be able to keep them alive.  Hey, it's hot here in the summer and it is on a roof, right?  Well, today I was returning from a closing and looked at how pretty all the plants looked and went back for a picture.

Estero played their first home game Friday, Sept 14 against Baker.  Bummer, defeated - score is irrelevant.  It was tied minutes before half time.  The thunder started rolling and I made tracks.  Since I didn't have a kid on the field this year I didn't feel obligated to chance death sitting on metal bleecher in a thunderstorm.  Better luck next Friday, boys.  Estero plays Cape Coral Mariner next Friday at Home.  If you're looking for the full season schedule:  Estero High Football Schedule.

Hurricane Obliterates Bonita Springs - 09/15/07 08:30 AM
Seriously, when "Wilma" hit that is what the nation was told, shown on cable and network television.
That was two years ago.  I remember EXACTLY where I was and WHEN I quit believing ALL journalists were fair and reported to help people.  I was in Sedona, Arizona for a few days when the storm starting heading towards Florida.  My cousin and I had our families fly out for safety.  We were glued to the TV watching, hoping, praying that if the hurricane hit Bonita Springs we wouldn't sustain alot of damage.

This is Night in Bonita Springs - 09/11/07 10:52 AM

The City of Bonita Springs has developed into a great place to live.  With the growth has come advancements that many people take for granted across the country; like the side walk I run on.  We didn't get them until recently.  They've come at a price; financial and lives lost because there were no sidewalks.  Everyone is grateful for them, now.  I get my money's worth. •1.         There can be up to a 30 day waiting period BEFORE you can move in to a rental.  If the property you've set your heart on is  in a community with a condominium or homeowners association there may be  tenant applications, credit checks, and possibly a background check.

Urine or You're Out - A Smelly Question - 09/03/07 11:03 AM
I have a stinky listing.  I'm certainly not proud about asking this, but I need help.  I've never had to deal with this before.
The owners vacated the house and it just got worse sitting empty. It smells like, uh, whiz. The owners had a big dog, a retreiver I believe.  They insist that the dog wasn't a whizzer, but it smells otherwise.  The carpet LOOKS clean, but doesn't smell clean.  I used a whole big box of Arm and Hammer pet deodorizer and it bounced off of it like water off a duck.

Ochopee Post Office - Standing Room Only - 09/02/07 01:30 PM
Isn't it cute!?!
The Ochopee Post Office is the smallest post office in the United States.  I stopped and snapped a few pictures of it on my way to Clyde Butchers Gallery in Big Cypress.  This closet-sized, 7x8-foot building used to be an irrigation pipe shed for a tomato farm.  It was turned into a postal service building after a fire destroyed the Ochopee General Store.  The General Store housed the original post office - in 1953.  The building has an airconditioner, light and a computer.  If nature calls, there's the Skunk Ape Research Headquarters is a mile east.  Yes, I asked about the bathroom and no … (13 comments)
