bonita springs dining: El Mesquite Bonita Springs Mexican Grill - 11/04/07 12:46 PM
Consider me a huge fan of patronizing locally owned "mom and pop" restaurants and businesses. Just recently I noticed a brand new restaurant open in Bonita Springs and I finally had the opportunity to stop in and have a bite to eat. Sammy, the owner of El Mesquite came over to the table for a chat and I promised him the spot of first restaurant review on Life in Bonita Springs. The restaurant is located on Old US 41 just north of West Terry Street. Long time residents will remember that it use to be Nelson's Hardware store back in the day. The restaurant is called El Mesquite

bonita springs dining: Bonita Springs - Paradise Shrimp & Seafood - 10/03/07 03:07 PM
Just down the building from Keller Williams in Bonita Springs, Florida is the Paradise Shrimp Company. It's been there for some time, but I've never stopped in until this last week. I actually walked down on Sunday morning and put my nose to the glass. To my surprise (there were no cars in the parking lot) the owner was inside and opened the door for little ol' me. This store is a fantastic find especially for "cheaters" like me. I now regret not stopping in earlier. The owners are an absolute delight. They're oh-so-nice and very knowledgeable about seafood and helpful, too.

bonita springs dining: The Niftiest Carrabba's Restaurant - Bonita Springs, Florida - 09/20/07 04:10 PM
Right on US 41 Tamiami Trail in Bonita Springs, Florida is the Carrabba's Restaurant. It's just across the street from Bonita Bay. You can pass it easily. It's totally covered with plants and trees. When they were building it about 4 or 5 years ago I never thought they'd be able to keep them alive. Hey, it's hot here in the summer and it is on a roof, right? Well, today I was returning from a closing and looked at how pretty all the plants looked and went back for a picture. Unfortunately, I almost never take advantage of dining at the

bonita springs dining: Neon Grill - Bonita Springs - 09/03/07 01:35 PM
Who are these people? I don't know. I was sitting at the booth next to them and I can tell you one thing. They were having a blast. Roaring laughter and thrilling shrieks from this table kept the room vibrating. I was tempted to ask them if I could switch tables - switch to their table, it was certainly fun sounding. It had been far too long since my last visit to The Neon Grill. It's a great restaurant, with fantastic food - and the customers are in GREAT moods! We've had a long hot summer here in Bonita Springs and unfortunately, we've

bonita springs dining: Starbucks Coffee Bonita Springs at the Promenade - 08/27/07 08:36 AM
There are a handful of Starbucks in Bonita Springs. I snapped a photo of Starbucks at the Promenade across the hall from Premier Properties. The Promenade is also the home of Ben and Jerry's, Silver Spoon Restaurant and several other great shoppes. The Promenade is located at the northwest corner of West Terry Street and US41-Tamiami Trail. Drive up - drop off service is just steps from Starbucks so it is stroller friendly and easily accessible for those who choose short walks. There are currently three Starbucks stores at the Coconut Point Mall, plus Audubon Plaza in North Naples and Pelican Landing at the intersection

bonita springs dining: Ben & Jerry's Bonita Springs - The Real Scoop - 08/18/07 05:07 PM
Within Walking distance of my home is a great little shopping area call The Promenade. The Promenade center is home to many great shopping boutiques and meeting spots such as Starbucks Coffee, Benigan's and The Silver Spoon Restaurant. Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream in Bonita Springs was first introduced to our area years ago. Shortly after the shopping center, The Promenade, opened the owner held a birthday party for her dog, Charlie Brown. Even Jack won a prize. It was a costume party with raffles and prizes. It was a birthday party/fundraiser for the humane society. Cost of entry: Dog food - any kind, any amount. What's not

bonita springs dining: Do You Do The DQ Lounge? - 08/18/07 07:13 AM
Do you have a DQ Lounge? We do! Just two blocks west of where I live (Brendan Cove) is our Dairy Queen. We've lived at this address for about 12 years so my kids and the neighborhood kids grew up hanging out and wrecking their appetite at this Dairy Queen. They were there so often we started referrinng to it as the DQ Lounge. Jamison, the former owner was so good to all of our kids - and promised to rat them out to us if they were doing something we needed to know about. I'm not a huge sweets eater, but I stopped

bonita springs dining: Alligator Alley - An Hour From Booth To Booth - 07/22/07 09:50 AM
It's only an hour to cross the Alley. The do-able day trip to see something new, do something new or just go someplace new to people watch. I crossed the swamp yesterday, just for kicks & giggles, and to meet a friend. What I like about the east coast of Florida is the highways. You see almost anything and everything. First, a storm front was moving in which was totally cool. I just love when you see the rain coming. Then I caught this lawn mower piggy back on a car. Before anyone gets worried, I was a passenger when I was taking the

bonita springs dining: Scambled Yokels & Whole Wheat Toast - 07/22/07 08:04 AM
The next best thing to eating at home or eating at your Mom's house is at a local place. You know one of those joints that all the local yokels hang out at. It's a meeting place of sorts for all sorts of people. Today, I stopped in for lunch with "goofy Brad - the landscaper" and Algorithm. I got my regular "salad sandwich" (hold the onions & side of onion rings. It's my own private Idaho) and listened to the toils and troubles of Brad, the would-be farmer. He just bought some acreage he's working on. He's not really had to

bonita springs dining: The Silver Spoon at The Promenade - 07/19/07 02:09 PM
A few blocks from my house is a shopping area called the Promenade. It's a great "outdoor" sort of mall. I stopped in to have lunch today at the Silver Spoon. I eat there enough ... the staff looks familiar, even if I don't know all of the names of everyone on the floor. Today, was different when I walked in. It was ...uh, empty! Not stark, kind of empty, but empty as in, there are usually a lot more people there. Turns out, there are a few other "Silver Spoon" restaurants in both Lee and Collier Counties, a few of which

bonita springs dining: Sushi Thai of Naples - 06/09/07 12:53 PM
Head South on Tamiami Trail, just a stones throw from Bonita Springs and visit Sushi Thai of Naples in Naples Park, Florida. Click HERE for the map. The restaurant is cozy and unique. Seating is offered at tables, booths or at the sushi bar. There is easy access to the building and no stairs. Besides sushi, Sushi Thai offers a wide variety of dishes, soups, stir fry and specialty dishes. Take a look at the Sushi Thai Menu. A recent convert to LOVING sushi, it wasn't until I experienced the cuisine at Sushi Thai that I was able to appreciate the delicacies of sushi prepared
