naples parks: Vanderbilt Beach Naples Florida - 09/28/07 04:00 PM
Even when the sun isn't out, it's still beautiful.  This photo was taken on Vanderbilt Beach, Naples, Florida at the site where Delnor Wiggins Pass State Park entry gate is located and the new Moraya Bay Tower Condominium is being built.  There are miles of beach heading north to Wiggins Pass that is all preserve and protected from development.  It's a must see when you visit the area.

naples parks: Big Cypress National Park Everglades - 09/01/07 03:35 PM

Why?  I just felt like it.  Since I was up to my waist in swamp and gator and I took it, I thought I'd post it.  No points, naturally I'm over my limit, so keep the whining to a minimum and at least rate the post like the good little 'Rainer that you are. 
This is smaller cypress in Big Cypress.  I highly recommend you walk in the Everglades once in your life, it's like not seeing the Grand Canyon or not ever seeing the Ocean. 
You're missing it and you don't know it.

Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary is a National Audubon Society sanctuary located in southwest Florida, north of Naples, Florida and east of Bonita Springs. 
A 2.25-mile raised boardwalk takes visitors through four distinct environments:
A pine uplandA wet prairieA cypress forestA marshSigns along the boardwalk describe the wildlife, plants and ecosystem.  There is a field guide and Children's Activity Book available at the admissions desk.  Benches and rain shelters are along the trail. For those who do not wish to walk the full 2.25 miles, an optional trail shortens the walk to one mile.
The Corkscrew Swamp Boardwalk tour takes from 1-3 hours.

Barefoot Beach and Delnor Wiggins Pass State Park are two parks located in Northern Collier County.  The parks are separated by Wiggins Pass, a water channel fed by the Cocohatchee River. 
Barefoot Beach is located south of Bonita Beach on Barefoot Beach Blvd. in Bonita Springs, Florida.  Park admission is $5.00.  Restroom, shower and snack service facilities are on site. 
Barefoot Beach Park is a Gopher Tortoise preserve.  This is an excellent location to catch a glimps of these dinosaurs in action.
Wiggins Pass is on the south side of the channel and accessible by car via 111th Avenue in Naples Park.  … (23 comments)
