Let me start by saying that you would definitely not call me a "tree hugger" ... I have come to this party much later than many of the pioneers proselytizing out there.
For me, the genesis was pragmatism.  I could save money by wasting less. Simple.

The Largest of the three main villages that comprise the Town of New Tecumseth, Alliston is a growing community of ~ 15,000 people.
It is known for its annual Alliston Potato Festival that runs from Friday to Sunday after Simcoe day, the 38th Festival will be held on August 6,7,8, 2010.

Among its attractions are: The Banting Homestead, South Simcoe Pioneer Museum, Nottawasaga Inn, a delightful main street and lots of fine dining.

Another of the many rural villages north of the GTA, Tottenham is one of three villages that make up the town of New Tecumseth (the others being Beeton and Alliston).
Known for its Tottenham Bluegrass festival held in June each year at the Tottenham Conservation Area (Jun 18-20, 2010)

 Tottenham is also the home of one of the few remaining Steam Engine Locomotives in Ontario.  Themed rides are available at various times during the year, Halloween rides are on this weekend Oct 23rd and 24th. For more information visit South Simcoe Railway
