Choosing Automotive Signage - 07/19/12 04:22 AM
As longtime readers, or people in my marketplace might know, I previously drove a Dark Blue Passat Stationwagen (diesel).  I had my brokerage (and symbol - "rock" and then "hot air balloon"), my website and my office phone number in white vinyl lettering on the side and rear windows of this car. It has been the most effective (and cost-effective) single piece of marketing I have attempted.  The signage on my Passat, as simple as it is, has resulted in three listings and numerous inquiries, and only comes with a small price... any and everyone knows who is driving my car.  … (22 comments)

500,000 points finally! - 07/16/12 06:05 PM
I crossed over the 500,000 point threshold today, finally, not so much with a "bang" but rather with a "whimper".  6,000 bonus points from Bob's Localism challenge pushed me to 503,000 when I wasn't looking... October 16th, 2009 seems so long ago now, when at the urging of my very good friends, Al and Peggy Cunningham, I joined AR.  I had recently re-entered Real Estate and they told me that this was the future. They introduced me to many people here, many of whose blogs I still regularly read.  In the first few years they would alert me to any contest … (41 comments)

Alecs Birthday Cake - 07/11/12 10:26 AM
For Helen and I, a child came later in our lives, and without much forethought ... the time has flown by.  We have enjoyed all the family time that we have managed this month, whether playing games indoors (to beat the heat), or in the pool late afternoons (when the sun is not so harsh), and we saw Brave in Orangeville last Sunday.  Helen is of Scottish heritage, so this movie, like Braveheart, was a "must see". I tend to be the more pragmatic person of the two of us.  So when Helen told me that she wanted to bake Alec … (27 comments)

Ian Collet of Double Top Darts - 07/10/12 04:01 PM
It is with great sadness that I must share the news that Ian Collet passed in the morning of July 9th, 2012. There are some people that you do not have to see and/or talk to every day.  It could be months, even years, and yet, when you meet, it is as if you last saw them yesterday. Ian, and his wife Carol, are that type of people. I introduced people to Ian in a blog on Double Top Darts, a store that is a fixture in the Brampton Darting Community.  Ian, himself, has been a fixture at the Royal Canadian … (8 comments)

Potential Virus unleashed on Computers Monday July 9th, 2012! - 07/08/12 08:30 AM
Potential Virus unleashed on Computers Monday July 9th, 2012! A years-old virus created in Estonia could wreak havoc on your smartphones and/or computers if you are infected.  The DNS changer virus was designed to re-route internet traffic to sites where the group could profit from ad-clicks.  The FBI has prevented this from happening through a two-year program called Operation Ghost Click.  On Monday the FBI is shutting down these "temporary servers" allowing the internet to return to normal.  In most computers, this issue has been dealt with, but if you want to make sure you are not vulnerable, read on... PC, … (8 comments)

Alliston Farmer's Market on Mill Street - 07/07/12 11:30 AM
More "opportunity time" this morning, and as you might know, if I happen to be near Alliston on a Saturday morning, I will stop by the local farmer's market. So this morning, in spite of the, at times, torrential rains, guess where I was?

Helen had put in her order, and I picked up six bagels, still warm from the oven, a couple of strudels, and a spicy beef patty.  Our order from the Harvest Share program has us stocked for fruit and vegetables for the week, so I passed on their fine produce.

If you happen to … (11 comments)

Lou Biffis built the Nottawasaga Inn in 1968 on the Nottawasaga river just south of Highway 89, East of Alliston and north of Beeton and Tottenham. Happy 236th Birthday America - 07/04/12 07:16 AM
Happy 236th Birthday America! My feelings towards the United States and its people have changed dramatically over the years.  As a student, I felt very pro-Canadian and anti-American.  I am not really sure I understand why.  Perhaps I was influenced by those around me... perhaps it was that I felt we, as Canadians, feel/felt so dominated by the larger (in population) prosperous and influential country to our south. Over the years, my feeling have changed.  As I look back, I understand that one of the major factors causing my feelings to change was experience, or perhaps, lack of it.  In my … (16 comments)
