We get many calls this time of year from borrowers who are worried that they can't get a mortgage because their lender told them that they need their W-2 for 2011 and they haven't received it yet from their employer.Employers have until the end of January to give W-2s to their employees and underwriters know that, so instead of a W-2, underwriters will accept the final pay stub for 2011, provided it shows the year-to-date income. "I don't have my W-2 yet.  Can I still get a mortgage?"  We are asked this question every January by nervous buyers.  
No need to worry.  The final pay stub of the year is acceptable proof of income and past employment, provided it includes the year-to-date income, which will be the same as the income reported on the W-2. 
If the pay stub does not include the year-to-date income, then we can have a verification of employment form completed by the employer.
