The hackers behind the worm have yet to give it any specific orders. "That's the interesting thing. The only thing the worm is being asked to do is to ask for further instructions," Steve Trilling, vice president of security firm Symantec, told the CBS program "60 Minutes" in a story aired on Sunday. Do YOU know what Conficker is? You Should... According to Wikipedia, Conficker is a computer worm virus that surfaced in October 2008 and has 4-5 iterations existing in the wild. It is also known as Downup, Kido, and Downadup. How do I know if I have Conficker? Conficker (70 comments)

It's Springtime in the Carson Valley! - 03/29/09 08:47 PM
It's springtime in the Carson Valley. Everywhere you look, you see small calves frolicking in their herds, snow melting, fields flood irrigating, and the birds of prey are heading home. Just a few weeks ago, we were covered in snow... Now it's spring, the buyers are out and looking! The days are getting longer, flowers are blooming, alfalfa is sprouting, and the days are heating up! After our last big snow from a couple of weeks ago, we're now enjoying 60 degree days, and people are beginning to plant perennials and start watering the lawn! Springtime is upon us and just (1 comments)
Two days ago, I blogged about the changing landscape of our real estate market. The market always thaws out faster than it freezes over, and springtime is a perfect time for a recovery.
Showings in the Carson Valley are up significantly, and today, we received two offers on one of our listings. Now that inventory is shrinking, and the mainstream media is reporting that a recovery may be in sight, it's clear that prospective buyers are jumping into the market lest they miss the great values it has to offer. Are you considering relocating to the Northern Nevada area? (3 comments)

Now, of course, one month does not make a trend, but if you look back from January on the graph below, you'll see that things do seem to be heading in the right direction.
So what can we tell about our real estate market from this graph? (2 comments)

The BANK says SELL IT! 75 Palm Springs Court, Sparks, NV ~ NOW $159,900!!!! - 03/05/09 12:29 PM
HUGE PRICE REDUCTION! NOW $159,900 (It started at $192,500!) 3 bedrooms / 2 baths / 2 car garage / 1,470 square feet / 0.35 acres This is a great bank-owned home, now priced at $108.78 per square foot. Our bank is very responsive and typically responds to offers within 24 hours (not including weekends). The home is in good condition, it is situated on a cul-de-sac, and is in a mature, Spanish Springs West neighborhood of single story ranchers on larger (1/3 acre) parcels...So it's not in your newer typical postage stamp property neighborhoods...There's a gravel driveway with room for an (1 comments)
Over the last few months, short sales have been a hot topic in our sales meetings every week in the Carson Valley. There are many agents in our office who have attempted short sales but haven't gotten to closing...Some agents avoid them at all costs, and refuse to even list them. So it got me to thinking, how many short sales actually closed last year in the Carson Valley? In 2008, there were 472 sales in the Carson Valley, Nevada market. Well, according to the Northern Nevada Assocation of Realtors (NNRMLS) only 19 homes of the 472 that sold in (8 comments)

Carson City, Nevada Home Sales Results: February 2009 - 03/02/09 07:11 PM
After pulling the statistics for homes sold in Carson City, Nevada for February, 2009, and the first thought I had was "Now, that's more like it". 19 homes sold in February, up from 10 in January. Sadly, 19 homes sold for February is still WAY off from a normal market, but it's almost 100% better than last month. Similar to January, 18 of the 19 homes sold were asking under $400,000. Only one sold above, and it sold for $420,000. The mid-level and upper-level markets are virtually dead in Carson City. Today, there are 292 homes available for sale, and 56 (0 comments)
