pennsville public library: Out With The Old -- In With The New -- The PBA Upgrades It's Website! - 05/23/13 03:29 PM
After several months of hard work, the obligatory 'tweaking' and a few test runs, The Pennsville Business Association launched it's new website tonight at a lovely Wine & Cheese reception held at The Pennsville Public Library.
There are two obvious changes to the website:  a new domain name (www.PennsvilleBusiness.org) and a new logo.
The new name is easy to memorize and better equipped to obtain that all-powerful 'google-juice' every business or organization desires.
The new logo is quite simple.  A circle!  If you look up the definition of the word circle in an online free dictionary, you'll see that it … (2 comments)

pennsville public library: My Favorite Gift So Far - Book Lovers Edition! - 12/21/12 04:56 PM
Today was a quiet but productive day at the office.  We were organizing all of the pending files to make sure things are in good order before the Christmas break.  It's nice to have a decent amount of files to juggle heading into the New Year.
We're very thankful for that!
At the end of the day, my secretary and dear friend, presented a beautifully wrapped package to me.  She seemed especially excited as I opened it.
I soon realized why.
I believe she chose an absolutely perfect gift for me and she knew it!
I've loved books … (6 comments)

Setting The Record Straight About The Pennsville Library - 11/10/12   There have been two recent mentions of the Pennsville Public Library in the 'BEN' column that haven't been accurately answered, so I feel a need to respond.  First, there was the question, "Will we survive, Pennsville Library?"   That is a fair enough question.  It's one that the Board of Trustees has been asking ourselves, on a regular basis, since April, 2010 when 74% of our funding was pulled away suddenly.  As the current President of the Board of Trustees, I can assure you that we crunch numbers as never before.  The eight of us … (1 comments)

At The Fruit Stand In New York City.  What the heck IS this?????

I visited China Town in New York City for a shopping trip for the Library's upcoming fundraiser.  (more on that later, I promise)  I just had to take this picture to show all of you.  Whatever it is......I had never seen it before.
Does anyone know what it is and what do you do with it?
Is it edible?
Just wondering.....

290 Golf Books For Sale - Can You Help Us Find Them A Home?
The Pennsville Public Library has been gifted a 'Gentleman's Collection' of golf books.  Three are 'author's copies'.  A mixture of hardback and paperbacks, some have never even been unwrapped!
There are fourteen boxes, bursting with approximately 290 books about all things golf.  They are about four or five years old.
The Library would like to sell them in one lot and keep the collection intact.  A list of titles is available upon request.
If you know of someone or an organization who has a home for … (1 comments)

Sweet Of The Month Club - Lime-Glazed Citrus Tea Cakes
In the summer of 2011, The Pennsville Public Library held their 2nd annual Luau to raise funds for their operating budget.  When asked for a donation, The girls at Coldwell Banker Pino Agency wanted to help, but felt the crunch of a stretched budget.  So, utilizing one of our hidden talents, 'The Sweet of The Month Club' was born.  We made a menu chock-full of some wonderful choices of baked goods and offered it up for the silent auction at The Luau.
Since the auction, the girls have prepared bread pudding, German chocolate cake, apple pie, … (5 comments)

Resume Writing and Interview Skills Wrapup
This post is the third and final in a series based on a workshop, The Perfect Resume facilitated by Bob Marino, recently held at The Pennsville Public Library.  Resume tips were covered quite extensively.
Here's a quick checklist to recap those tips:
1)  Keep it short - one page if possible.
2)  Create a powerful profile/summary.
3)  Write as if YOU were going to read it.
4)  State your value.
5)  Shy away from restricting words - full time, in NJ, day work, work-at-home, etc.
6)  Always incorporate words from the ad.
7)  Pick your format … (1 comments)

pennsville public library: Tips On Resume Writing - 01/26/12 03:23 PM
With so many people looking for employment, many of them older displaced workers, brushing up on resume writing and interview skills is a necessity.  Bob Marino, an adjunct professor with Temple and Salem Community College, facilitated a workshop at The Pennsville Public Library on January 26th, 2012.  Here are his top 'Tips On Resume Writing'.
1)  Use good quality 8 1/2 x 11 paper
2)  Your resume should be consistent. If you place dates at the end of information, do the same throughout the resume.  (You don't need dates, although they are fine.)
3)  Highlight marketable assets with bold or italics.

"Welcome To The Perfect Resume" - Tonight's Workshop at The Pennsville Public Library
Bob Marino, past adjunct professor at Temple University in Philadelphia and currently on staff at Salem Community College is clearly in favor of 'giving back to his community'.
This evening, Bob facilitated an extremely valuable and much-needed class on how to properly prepare a resume in order to attract attention by today's employers. What is most impressive is that Bob conducted this workshop at no charge.  (Thanks, Bob!)
The resume has changed in the last ten years, in case you didn't know.  It is most important to tell the potential employer … (2 comments)

pennsville public library: A Conversation About Libraries........ - 11/01/11 05:45 PM
A Conversation About Libraries........
Tom Brokaw, on David Letterman, while promoting his new book:The Time of Our Lives, A Conversation About America
"We really have to make some fundamental changes in this country.  And there's a lot of stuff going on across America that deserves more attention.  Public school teachers are doing the right things.  Not too far from here I know a principle in the public school, in the south Bronx, who came to me and said I need some help, I have an empty Library.  We can't fill it up. So, I hope to raise some money....she raised a lot on her own.  … (3 comments)

The Life & Death of Edgar Allan Poe
On Friday October 21st, The Pennsville Public Library is participating in The United Way's 'Big Read'.  This year's theme is Edgar Allan Poe.
There are ravens hidden in several places around Salem County for inquisitive minds to find -- similar to the 'Where's Waldo' game that is so beloved.  There are several scheduled readings of Poe's work, book discussions and movie nights.
The Pennsville Library has decided to share the man's story as their contribution to 'The Big Read'.  The tale of his tormented life......and his tortured death parallels some of his … (6 comments)

'QR' (Quick Response) Code Challenge for June, 2011
These funny black & white 'thingees' have been on my mind for several months now.
I meant to read about them.
As a consumer, I wanted to learn how to access the information embedded in them.
As a Realtor, I knew that I needed to create them and utilize them for the benefit of my clients.
As a blogger on Active Rain, I received a gentle push in the right direction. So, I thank you Active Rain!  I probably would have put this off a tad longer if it weren't for your … (4 comments)

The Pennsville Public Library's NEW Online Newsletter is Here!
I'm so happy to announce that the Library now has a new communication vehicle -- an online newsletter!
It has been created and edited by Debbie Davis, owner of Davis Day Trips.  Debbie is one of those 'spit-fires' we would all like to be like.  Her energy and enthusiasm never wains.  She has successfully arranged several fundraiser bus trips in 2011.  (The Board and Friends are so very thankful for all of her efforts.)
The newsletter will provide no-cost dispersement of all the good stuff that is happening at the Library, plus … (0 comments)
