"How's the Market?"
I'm asked this question all the time. Since the market is varied, the answer is different depending on the sector. If we were to take the pulse of the market right now here are a few trends we'd notice:
New Homes: It's not a great time to be a builder. Profit margins are down- and it will probably stay that way for a while. This is good news for the buyer. The selection is phenomenal. America is home to accidental millionaires. 
These are they who didn't plan on becoming wealthy; it just, for lack of a better explanation, sort of happened.
This is how an older friend explained it to me. "I arrived in town with hay in my ears. Bought some land way out there and then everyone else showed up. I didn't think this land was worth much more than I paid for it and next thing I know it's valuable."
It is the law of supply-and-demand in action.

The two fastest growing counties in the country are both found in Arizona.
They are first Maricopa County and next, Pinal County.

It's not all doom and gloom in the housing market.

For those who are interested in Maricopa County Arizona's southeast valley, here's some recent data to consider, as demonstrated in this article from the Arizona Republic's, Sept. 11, 2007 edition:
Chandler, Mesa and the city of Maricopa had more single-family permits taken out for the first half of this year than they did during the same period in 2006. Prices for new homes have dropped into the $130,000s in Maricopa, which will likely entice more buyers. And although Gilbert's permit numbers are down, housing construction remains brisk.
