mesa arizona: If we had a billion dollars- Mesa Arizona voters to vote on Hotel/Convention - 02/13/09 01:29 PM
Rendering of Gaylord Entertainment & DMB project for Mesa, Arizona (from "yes on 300") ---------- Mesa, Arizona is an anomaly. It's large. To be precise, it's the 38th largest city in America. That means there are several states in the union that don't have a city as large as Mesa. But Mesa lacks something. Overshadowed by the bigger cities of Phoenix and Tucson, Mesa is looking for something beyond the bland. I don't know if I should even mention this, but Mesa just earned another distinction that cements this. Forbes named Mesa one of the ten most boring cities in

mesa arizona: Have No Fear- Eco Goats Are Here - JANUARY 2009 ECO Challenge - 01/15/09 10:05 AM
My dog needs a job. I'm serious. She's an outdoor dog and she seems, I dunno, fairly happy. She's got a half acre to roam, a small collection of toys, and birds to chase. But there's something missing. I can sense it. Anytime I approach the back door she jumps to attention. She's eager to do something. Anything. And I'm at a loss for what to do. ----- I wonder if animals have dreams of doing more in life. Does my dog dream of Lassie-like adventures? We don't have a nearby mine-shaft... so she has no one to rescue. My

mesa arizona: Mesa Arizona's Storytelling Festival is Underway - 10/23/08 05:46 PM
All it takes is one. One person who could tell stories in a way that could take you on a journey. I'm fortunate to have met some very good story tellers. They've enhanced my life in ways that I could never convey. Storytelling is a gift and an art.... some might say a lost art. If you'd like to hear some of the nation's best story tellers, you're in for a treat. Now in it's sixth year, Mesa's Storytelling Festival has officially begun. It started today (Thursday October 22) and runs until Saturday. Concert tickets are $11 but Saturday's daytime events

mesa arizona: Mesa Arizona Selects Zip Code 85204 for Foreclosure Assistance - 10/17/08 01:11 PM
What to do with the money? That's a question that cities around the nation have been asking themselves lately. Last July President Bush signed the Housing and Recovery Act of 2008 into law. The legislation included funding for foreclosure assistance and relief programs. Like any other city, Mesa has been trying to figure the best use of public funds. In an article "City to Target Foreclosures in ZIP 85204", Gary Nelson of the Arizona Republic (Oct 17, 2008) explained the city's plan. In short, it is to use the city's allotment ($9.6 million) to concentrate on the area most affected by

mesa arizona: Why My Phone is Ringing- Arizona Resales Jump 10% - 10/16/08 05:49 PM
In June (The Market Has Two Bottoms) I reported that home sales are up in the Phoenix Metro Area. Fast forward to last month (September) and we see that the trend continues. September marks the second best sales month for the year. One may conclude that the bottom has been reached with regard to quantity of real estate sales. Homes sales are climbing, this time by double digits. However, these numbers are being achieved at the expense of pricing- which continues to fall. Foreclosures and short sales continue to increase. To compete against this, new home builders are also continuing their

mesa arizona: Arizona's G.A.I.N. Program - Getting Arizona Involved in Neighborhoods - 10/15/08 06:43 PM
As we are headed into a holiday season we may, unfortunately, see an increase in criminal activity. This could include: car theft, id theft and burglary. One way to decrease such activity is to organize a Neighborhood Block Watch program. Typically you'll find information about such groups on your city's official web site. Arizona has started a statewide initiative called "G.A.I.N." which is an acronym for: Getting Arizona Involved In Neighborhoods Their goal is to bring together communities by acting on a neighborhood level. As they say, "This is a time to turn on your porch lights, go outside

mesa arizona: Passing the Flying Colors - 07/04/08 01:57 PM
Our neighborhood has a few traditions: A neighborhood chili cook-off before Halloween Luminarias on Christmas Eve Flags out front for every holiday. The last part, the flags, are provided by the local boy scouts. They deliver a large flag to your front yard… a flag that flies from dawn to dusk. Since my son has been a boy scout for several years now that means I drive while he posts. It's amazing how different the neighborhood looks during the holidays. The neighbors smile that much more. They wave as you deliver or take down. More importantly, this act raises questions
