Hyper-Local Blogging-Be Careful What You Ask For - 04/30/12 06:18 PM
We all hope our blog catches the attention of a potential client or two.  Sometimes while we are concentrating on our target market we are surpised by an unplanned outcome of our blogging efforts.Since the beginning of 2011 my blog posts on the Belmont Bay neighborhood in Woodbridge VA  has led to 15 rental listings and another 5 incoming rental clients under lease.  All without getting in my car or walking more than 1/2 mile to complete a transaction.  Now in my area rental transactions won't pay the bills by themselves but they do provide a nice way to fill in … (75 comments)

West Springfield Kicking Of the 1960's With Award Winning Homes - 04/29/12 03:44 PM

West Springfield homes are as popular today as they were when Edward Carr introduced the neighborhood in the 1960's.  Springfield Golf and Country Club has grown and expanded into a private country club but the three lakes are still there and members have a chance to play 18 holes of golf, play tennis, swim and enjoy special events at the clubhouse. When the West Springfield homes were first introduced they ranged in price from the $24,000 to $35,000.  Today homes in West Springfield surrounding the country club run in the mid-$400,000's and up depending on the updates and additions.

Peace and Quiet On A Sunday Morning In Northern Virginia - 04/29/12 10:18 AM

It's nice to remember that despite the busy roads that criss cross Northern Virginia that you can still find scenes like this.  Moments like this make me remember how much I enjoyed spending time on my Grandfather's farm as a child.  Hope you have a wonderful Sunday and a great week ahead.

Birds Aren't The Only One Who Like Slugs In Springfield VA - 04/28/12 05:57 PM
If you are just moving to West Springfield (VA) from another part of the country the term "slug line" make you go YUCK. However for anyone who has lived in the area for awhile the term "slug line" means a great way to get from a West Springfield neighborhood to the Pentagon or other major DC employment areas. One of the questions that anyone relocated to the area asks is about public transportation options. Once newcomers understand the value of a slug line...it is FREE then they wonder if they can find a home within a mile of a slug line.

Early Design Center Options In Springfield VA - 04/25/12 12:53 PM
Today when you buy a new home the builder design center reminds you of a huge furniture store.  The builder offers you a myriad of choices for every room in the house.  In 1950's Springfield VA you had a "colororizer" to help you pick out the interior color scheme of your home.  I can remember friends who had homes with pink or turquoise kitchen appliances and yellow bathroom fixtures.  If you are looking for a home in Springfield VA today you can still find some homes with the original fixtures but more often you will find a home that is nicely … (10 comments)

Wordless Wednesday-Are You My Mother? - 04/25/12 12:04 PM

Glanced over last night and found Alley Cat staring intently at this poster in my living room. I wondered if she was thinking; are you my mother or perhaps take me to our leader? Alley is a rescue and rarely seems to sleep which has earned her the nickname "crack kitty."   At least this time she sat still long enough for me to grab my phone and snap a picture.

Active Rain-It's All About The Secret Sauce - 04/20/12 08:36 AM
KFC has it's secret herbs and spices.  Coca-Cola has it's secret formula.  Not as well known or publicized is Active Rains's Secret Sauce.
What goes into the Active Rain Secret Sauce?  Well if we knew the answer to that question we'd all be lounging on a beach instead of selling real estate.  However there is one ingredient that is obvious.  It's the willingness to share.
This photo was taken on Friday April 13, 2012 in Dulith GA.  Talk about an unlikely location.  Let's get to what's even more amazing.  These are all Active Rain members from around the country.Michelle Gibson-Wellington FLDebe … (52 comments)

The Crestwood neighborhood in Central Springfield has changed a lot since this ad from the 1950's.  At the time the Virginian rambler was one of the least expensive homes you could buy in the growing suburbs 20 miles south of DC.  Many of the original Virginian models have been expanded and in some cases torn down for larger homes.  In their time they were the first home of choice for many young families. Out & About on Sunday-We All Need A Little Extra Support Now And Then - 04/16/12 04:27 AM

It's obvious looking at the old timber balanced on the interior walls at Chapman Mill that they have served the mill well.  However to make the mill safe for visitors today new steel beams cross the interior walls to hold them up.  If I had been around since the mid 1700's I'd need more than a steel beam to keep me upright.Chapman's Mill is located in Prince William County off of Route 66 at the Haymarket exit.  The mill grounds are open on the weekends from 9 AM to 5 PM.

Do You Know What A "Red Flag" Warning Means In Woodbridge VA? - 04/10/12 05:32 PM
It means with high winds and dry conditions there is a high chance of brush fires starting.  Warnings have been given not to throw cigarettes into brush, out car windows and to be careful that you keep your charcoal grill in check.  This is what happens when you don't.  This fire spread from one end of the wetland area in Belmont Bay within 5 minutes.  Fortunately two fire trucks were able to arrive on the scene and keep it from going any further.  One truck is still standing watch since the winds are gusting up to 30 MPH.  Pay attention to … (14 comments)
