charlestown: Enjoy Charlestown One of Springfield (VA) Best Kept Secrets - 11/17/09 09:59 AM
Tucked just off the intersection of two major roads in Springfield is the townhouse community of Charlestown.  With tree lined streets, community parks and easy access to shopping and commuter routes this secret neighborhood is well worth checking out.
One of the benefits of the Charlestown neighborhood is the outside maintenance that the HOA provides. Besides the lawn care, trash pickup and snow removal the HOA also paints the exterior trim of the townhouses on a three year cycle, replaces the roofs when needed and the brick walls that run around the perimeter of the backyards.

charlestown: Charlestown-A West Springfield Neighborhood That Has Stood the Test of Time - 07/23/09 12:56 PM
They say that fine wine ages well.  The same thing can be said for the townhouse neighborhood of Charlestown in West Springfield.   Maybe it is the all brick construction or the tree lined streets that make it standout from other area neighborhoods.  It might even be the residents of the neighborhood who have a strong home owners association which even maintains the exterior of the townhouses.  But whatever the combination it has worked well for 40 years.Anytime you read an MLS description for Charlestown you will see somewhere the words "dramatic curved staircase."  Having lived and owned a townhouse in the neighborhood I … (6 comments)

charlestown: Look Mommy "Popcorn Trees" - 04/03/09 06:20 AM
The parents liked the Charlestown neighborhood in West Springfield for its all brick townhouses, proximity to transportation and shopping.  However four year old Annabelle liked it because it was the first place she had ever seen where popcorn grew on trees.Everyone has their reasons for liking a neighborhood to call home.  As Realtors® we have to listen to what our clients like and work to help them find the place that feels right.  If Annabelle has her way the neighborhood with the popcorn trees will be the one that her parents call home. If your family has a need for a … (12 comments)

charlestown: West Springfield (VA) What Has Happened to Sales in Charlestown 2004-2008 - 03/25/09 12:33 AM
Since we are still early in the 2009 real estate sales cycle, trying to predict whether this year will see an increase  or decrease in sales volume for the year seems premature.  It is also important to consider that not all neighborhoods or zip codes trend up or down at the same time.  One of the neighborhoods that I track closely is Charlestown in West Springfield.  This week after showing multiple properties to a military family within an upcoming tour to the Pentagon I compiled the last five years of sales data for the neighborhood.  Since Charlestown has multiple floorplans from 2 BR/1.5 BA … (2 comments)

charlestown: Lake Accotink Park-A Haven for Springfield Families through the Years - 02/25/09 08:30 AM

Growing up my friends and I could ride our bikes from our homes in Springfield to Lake Accotink Park to spend a few hours exploring the paths throughout the park.  Our family would enjoy a Sunday picnic on the grounds in the summer, my dad fished during trout season and we ice skated on the stream below the dam in the winter. When my children were growing up the tradition continued with bike rides around the 3.75 mile path that loops around the lake and through the woods.  From our homes in Kings Park or later Charlestown we could enter the park … (4 comments)
