cindy jones remax allegiance: Fort Belvoir and Lorton-Great Neighbors in Northern Virginia - 05/02/09 07:17 AM

Located just a few miles from the main gate of Fort Belvoir the neighborhoods that make up the Lorton area have a long tradition with the military and military families in Northern Virginia.  Lorton history goes  back to our first Commander in Chief, George Washington.  There are older neighborhoods such as Harborview which are just as popular today as they were when they were built in the 50's, 60's and 70's. Over the last 10 years a "new" Lorton has emerged which has brought a renewal to southern Fairfax County. Most of the "new" Lorton growth came about when the Lorton Prison Complex was … (2 comments)

cindy jones remax allegiance: Military Relocation-What a Difference a Year Makes for VA Loans - 05/02/09 06:35 AM
Most of us working during the "hot market" in Northern Virginia in 2002-2005 fought to get a seller to accept a VA loan.  Today sellers realize VA loan benefits are the one of the hottest tickets in town.March statistics in Prince William County show that 107 VA loans were used to close properties as compared to 70 in 2008 and 14 in 2007.  VA loan benefits are the best and the only 100% financing options available for military families and qualified civilians. There seems to be a rumor flying around Northern Virginia that you can't use a VA loan to buy a … (3 comments)

cindy jones remax allegiance: Reaching Across the Table-Listing Agents & Buyer’s Agents Working Together - 02/07/09 09:58 AM
Is a new day dawning in real estate?  I'm currently in various stages of four transactions and am finding a new level of professionalism that had slipped by the wayside a few years ago.Three of the properties are my listings and each of the buyer agents are on top of the documents and time schedules even when we have had a few technology issues no one is losing their cool.  My listing in Westridge is under contract with another local Active Rain blogger Peggy James and it has been like old friends working together even though we still haven't meet face … (55 comments)

cindy jones remax allegiance: The Subprime Mortgage Mess-Rollingwood Village in Prince William County - 01/26/09 09:58 PM
While researching property information for an investor interested in buying property in Prince William County they asked about the Rollingwood Village neighborhood close to Potomac Mills Mall.   On the surface the neighborhood has a lot of good qualities, close to major shopping, commuting options and recreation opportunities.  It should be high on the list as a great investment and potential rental property. However, it is also one of the neighborhoods that are showing the damages of the sub-prime mortgage mess.  Currently there are 12 townhouses on the market and 11 of them are either foreclosures or short sales.  Looking at the detached homes … (2 comments)

cindy jones remax allegiance: Quantico Marine Corps Base-The Blend of Old and New - 01/24/09 06:32 AM
Since Quantico Marine Corps Base first opened its doors in 1917 it has taken on the role of not only being the “Crossroads of the Marine Corps” but also the “Frontline of Innovation” for the Marines. As you drive through the gates of Quantico you can’t help but realize how many important enlisted and officers of the Marine Corps have also passed through those gates and under the Welcome to Quantico sign.Drive past the Marine Corps University complex where officers attend both OCS and advanced training at the War College or enlisted marines attend leadership training at the Non-Commissioned Officers Academy.  … (12 comments)

cindy jones remax allegiance: Visiting a Little Movie Trivia-Valley Forge Military Academy & College. - 11/29/08 05:29 PM
Do you remember the movie TAPS?   Released in 1981 the movie starred George C. Scott, Timothy Hutton and Tom Cruise.  The movie was filmed in Wayne PA and on the campus of Valley Forge Military Academy & College (VFMAC).
Yesterday my "cousin" John Rapp who is a graduate of VFMAC, former instructor and active alumni was participating in the activities for Remembrance Day on campus.   John also had a couple of cameo scenes in the move Taps as well.
Looking over the quiet campus on Friday it was easy to see why the fictitious cadets from the movie would want to … (0 comments)

cindy jones remax allegiance: The Mailman Knows Where the Next Foreclosure Will Be - 08/25/08 08:43 PM
Think about it for a second.  If you want to know who is having trouble paying their mortgage the mailman may be the person to ask.  The mailman is the one that is delivering the overdue notices and demand letters from the lenders to the house.  It seems they should be the ones we should be asking what's going on in the market.  If all real estate is local then who is more local than the mailman?
This might seem a bit far fetched but it is it anymore far fetched than what the national news is reporting?  The balance of … (21 comments)
