Today may have been the last of the perfect fall days in Northern Virginia. The call of Burke Lake and a stroll around the 4.7 mile trail that wanders the perimeter of the lake were to hard to resist. Along the way I couldn't help but notice the reflection of the fall trees in the water and wish for just a few more days of feeling the warm sunshine on my shoulders.

The dog days of summer are starting to creep into Fairfax County. When they do one of the best local places to escape is Burke Lake Park. Burke Lake Park is located just off of Route 123 and a few miles from the City of Fairfax. With over 850 acres including a 220 acre lake there is plenty for everyone to enjoy. It is snake mating season and in Fairfax County the Copperhead snakes are feeling a bit fiesty. Though Copperhead snake bites aren't usually fatal I'm not going to press my luck and find out.
