fort belvoir va: Today is Military Spouse Appreciation Day-A Heartfelt Thank You - 05/11/12 07:19 AM
Military Spouse Appreciation Day was first celebrated in 1984 when President Ronald Reagan proclaimed the observence. Since then every year the Friday before Mother's Day is set aside to thank those who stand beside our troops during both peace and conflict. If you know a military spouse who is holding down the fort while their loved one is away today would be a great day to treat them to a special lunch, dinner or even offer to watch the kids so they can have some quiet time. Thank you to all the military spouses around the world for your support of (38 comments)

fort belvoir va: Nike Missles and Inmates An Unlikely Combination in Lorton VA - 12/23/10 10:29 AM
My friends accuse me of making some of these little facts about Northern Virginia up. Nope the stories are all real....well okay the one about the Bunny Man Bridge in Clifton...not so much. However the story of the DC Reformatory located in Lorton VA being the site of the Army's premier showcase for the nationwide Nike program unveiled in 1954 is true. One of the big issues that the government faced when it was trying to build defenses against the threat of a nuclear attack from the USSR was acquiring the land necessary to develop missile defense sites. Since the Army (8 comments)
Chances are you will encounter a deer or two in your yard in the Saratoga neighborhood in West Springfield (VA.) With the pockets of woods scattered throughout the neighborhood you will also see rabbits and foxes too. The wildlife is just one reason that make Saratoga a neighborhood that stays on the list of sought after West Springfield neighborhoods. Now with the new National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) being built on the old Fort Belvoir Engineering Proving Grounds, buyers will have another reason to consider the Saratoga neighborhood. The Engineering Proving grounds are considered the "For Belvoir- East Campus" as part (4 comments)
fort belvoir va: PCS to Fort Belvoir-Take a Walk on the Wild Side - 09/07/09 09:09 AM
Perched high overlooking the Potomac River the Fort Belvoir's Officer Club has one of the best views in all of Northern Virginia. The Officers Club isn't the only place to enjoy time with Mother Nature on post. In fact Fort Belvoir which is comprised of over 8,500 acres also has over 1,300 acres of dedicated wildlife refuges as part of the base property as well. The largest piece of the refugee established in 1980 is the Accotink Bay Wildlife Refuge on the north post. The trail offers nine miles of walking paths through a variety of wildlife habitat and includes a (3 comments)
The new DeWitt Army Hospital at Fort Belvoir is less than 2 years away from opening it's doors as part of the influx military and civilian jobs heading to Fort Belvoir. The construction area is buzzing seven days a week!
The new DeWitt Hosptial is located just inside Pence gate and is just down the road from the current hospital but it is easy to see how this new facility will eclipse the old one. The new DeWitt Army hospital will not be a single building but a complex. Featuring state of the art technology eliminating the need for hand carrying (3 comments)
