Most of you read my blog know that Memorial Day and other holidays honoring our veterans and active duty military personnel are important to me. Most years on Memorial Day I have made an early morning visit to Arlington Cemetery to pay my respect to all of those who have served including my husband. This year I'm spending the holiday with friends at the Outer Banks in North Carolina. However even though I"ve changed my location this year it doesn't mean that my thoughts aren't with the families of those who have lost loved ones. As I look out over the Atlantic (9 comments)

military appreciation: Today Is Military Spouse Appreciation Day-Say Thank You To Those Who Keep The Home Fires Burning - 05/06/11 09:36 AM
Did you know that in 1984 President Reagan proclaimed the Friday before Mother's Day of each year to be Military Spouse Appreciation Day? The purpose of this special day is to thank military spouses for the support they give to their family and other military families, to honor their contributions to the communities where they live and to acknowledge the sacrifices they make every day in support of their military member and our country. Since the day doesn't have a rack of Hallmark cards it may be overlooked by many as a day to honor the sacrifices that military spouses make (8 comments)
military appreciation: Lend A Helping Hand To A Family Left Behind-Holiday Season Stage it Forward - 12/29/10 01:56 PM
Holidays are one of the hardest times for military families separated by deployment. It is also one of the best times for friends and neighbors to lend a helping hand. It isn't about money it's about a few minutes or a few hours to help with the little things that need to be done. Simple things such as helping put up their outside holiday lights or getting the Christmas tree in that pesky stand. How about volunteering to stand in line at the post office or UPS store for them. Does mom or dad need a few hours to get (18 comments)

I just finished finding a rental property for a family who's son was injuried in a roadside blast and lost both of his legs. They looked long and hard for a barrier free home that he he could come and visit while he recuperates at a local hospital.Julissa's post tells the story well of how the support and love of family play into helping our hero's come (3 comments)
