Many folks will shake their heads and say there is NO WAY you can live in this area without a car. My daughter and her husband live in Alexandria, don't own a car and get around Northern Virginia with very few problems. How do they manage? First and foremost is planning. The movement of new people into the area and realignment of work centers has been going on for sometime and still continues with moves that could take until 2015 in some areas. Recently the Washington Examiner interviewed me for an article; "Local resources offer help for BRAC Families" regarding some of the assistance I've provided to families

northern virginia relocation: CHILDREN ARE SELLERS IN SMALLER PACKAGES - 06/16/10 02:38 PM
Recently I've had the pleasure of having families with young children as my assistants. I love Martha's idea of giving them their own listing agreement for helping in the process. Via Martha Brown Annapolis and Anne Arundel County RE (Long & Foster Real Estate, Inc.): After moving several times with small children in tow I knew personally just how stressful it could be on them. Sometimes it seemed as if the move was a 'bigger' deal to them then it was to me and to me it was huge. So when I decided to make real estate my career

northern virginia relocation: Hiding Out from the Dog Days of Summer in Northern Virginia - 06/06/10 07:20 PM
It is happening every day in dark alleys throughout Northern Virginia. No not muggings but FUN! How can it be? It is easy when you let your eyes adjust to the darkness and spy a group of adults tossing a grapefruit size ball at miniature pins in a game of duck pin bowling or a party full of little bowlers keeping the ball in the lane with the rubber bumpers covering the gutters. Back in the day bowling alleys had the reputation of being smoke filled buildings with greasy fries and hot dogs as the main attraction. My dad wouldn't let

northern virginia relocation: Northern Virginia Relocation-Will You Be an Innie or An Outie? - 12/31/09 04:40 PM
No, this isn't a personal question about your belly button. Buyers moving to Northern Virginia often see the phrase "inside" or "outside" the beltway in MLS descriptions and wonder where are these locations on the map. For those who have lived in the Northern Virginia most of our lives we have watched "outside" the beltway on the Virginia side expand far west and south of DC. Just as the term "slugging" started as a phrase to describe riders using counterfeit tokens, the term inside or outside the beltway started with a different meaning in our area as well. The phrase was

northern virginia relocation: Slugging-A Northern Virginia Phenomena That Won't Land You in Jail - 12/01/09 08:06 AM
That's right you can slug away in Northern Virginia and not spend a night in jail. When you hear someone in Northern Virginia mention slugging they are talking about just one of the ways that commuters in our area get into DC during rush hour. Our slug lines are famous around the country as a unique form of carpooling not often found in other major metropolitan cities. The term actually started with the local bus drivers who would find riders who had slipped in "slugs" or fake tokens into the token box instead of the real ones. The term stuck and became linked with
