Even though this mama duck has the Occoquan River only a block away she decided this puddle on the street was a good spot for a first swim.  Since it's Earth Day 2012 I hope you get a chance to enjoy the wonders of what Mother Nature has provided whether its watching ducklings in a pond or taking a walk through your local park.

When the sun is out and the humidity is low my thoughts turn to sneaking off to Madigan's Restaurant for lunch on the deck. With views of the Occoquan River and the antics of the ducks it is a great escape from the ringing cell phone and stacks of paperwork on my desk.

Occoquan Regional Park in Lorton VA is a small slice of tranquility just minutes away from the hustle and bustle of Northern Virginia.  The park managed by the Northern Virginia Park Authority offers not only wooded walking paths, views of the Occoquan River but also contains significant pieces of Lorton VA history.Walking along the wooded scenic trail you find a marker labeled DC 1910.  The park was originally part of the land owned by the DC Reformatory located in Lorton.  The main buildings of the reformatory are now the Lorton Workhouse Arts Center.  The park contains the only remaining brick kiln … (10 comments)

Tucked off of the main street in Historic Occoquan VA is the patio for The Garden Kitchen.  The restaurant is a great place to sneak away on a nice spring day for a bite to eat with friends.  This week the azaleas were in full bloom making this patio a perfect oasis.
