occoquan wildlife refuge: Does Flapping My Wings On Take Off Count? - 05/20/12 07:53 AM

The boaters know to pay attention to the no wake signs as the come in and out of Belmont Bay in Woodbridge VA.  I wonder if the Osrpey know to slow their speed as well?  For anyone who likes to watch Osprey fish and listen to their calls the Belmont Bay area and the Occoquan Bay Wildlife Refuge will give you lots of opportunities.

occoquan wildlife refuge: There's Been A Turtle Pile Up At The Pond- Please Send Help - 03/28/12 04:50 PM

You would think with over 600 acres and multiple watering holes at the Occoquan Bay Wildlife Refuge the turtles could spread themselves out a bit.  However this must be the best place to hang out with your turtle buddies.
The OBWLR is a great place for kids to get to see lots of wildlife...oh and adults too.

occoquan wildlife refuge: Wordless Wednesday-A Pop of Purple In the Rocks - 04/07/10 06:56 AM

The Occoquan Wildlife Refuge in Woodbridge VA is a wonderful place to enjoy a walk along the Occoquan River.  Though most people are looking towards the sky bird watching there are also flowers popping up in places you wouldn't expect.  In this case these flowers had managed to pop up among the rocks at the rivers edge.  A great contrast to the gray of the rocks and easy to miss if you are scanning the horizon for Ospery, Blue Herons and Bald Eagles.
