In the early 1970's Fairfax County Public Schools reached out to the local community to develop a unique program offering high school students the opportunity to learn real world vocational skills. The program, the Foundation of Applied Technical Education, Inc (FACTS) is still successful training and helping hundreds of Fairfax County High School students today.
Since the start of the program the students have built 21 homes with a total value of $11.5 million dollar. The program is self sustaining with the sale of the homes funding the next home and scholarships for students.

I've written blog posts about Fairfax County Virginia's last one room school house,Sydenstricker School aka Pohick School #8 since 2007. Along the way I've had the chance to learn a bit more about the school with contacts with it's current caretakers the Upper Pohick League.
