springfield virginia expert: The Real Mixing Bowl in Northern Virginia-It isn’t in Springfield - 02/12/09 05:08 PM
For years commuters and residents of Northern Virginia have referred to the mess of merging roadways in Springfield as the "mixing bowl." It is easy to see why it got that name. With 50 ramps and 20 lanes, merging of three major interstate highways, I-95, I-495 and I-395 it has gotten a reputation of being both a bottleneck and a confusing interchange. As the huge Springfield Interchange project came to an end and Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) turned its attention to "hot lanes" and other projects the 8 years of road construction in Springfield began to fade from commuters minds. However a pattern of when the average prices began to fall, the days on market and seller subsidies began to climb is more apparent with a five year chart than just looking at the last two years. There is no doubt that I'm not a statistician and rely heavily on the MLS for most of my data. However since the data is readily available,

springfield virginia expert: Caught Between a Rock and a Hard Place-50 Years of Student History - 01/08/09 08:07 PM
Anyone who drives past Washington Irving Middle School in West Springfield (VA) can't help but notice the large painted boulder at the entrance to the school. The history of the "rock" and the tradition that surrounds it go back September 1960 when Washington Irving opened its doors. At that time Old Keene Mill Road that runs in front of the school was a winding two lane road. When road crews were finishing the entrance to the school they uncovered the large boulder and stood it on its end by the driveway. The rock instantly gained the attention of the middle school students and became
