west springfield va: Welcoming NGA and BRAC 05 Transfers to West Springfield VA - 01/25/11 07:53 PM
If you haven't been stationed in Northern Virginia before one of the first things that you want to become familiar with are all the different commuting options available. Depending on the neighborhood you may have the option for an express bus, a metro ride, VRE or slug line. Many who "slug" in the morning take a bus home in the evening, so you are not stuck with just one choice of how to come and go. Once you have an idea of your West Springfield commuting options then we can take a closer look at some of the Fairfax County neighborhoods

west springfield va: Enjoy Charlestown One of Springfield (VA) Best Kept Secrets - 11/17/09 05:59 PM
Tucked just off the intersection of two major roads in Springfield is the townhouse community of Charlestown. With tree lined streets, community parks and easy access to shopping and commuter routes this secret neighborhood is well worth checking out. One of the benefits of the Charlestown neighborhood is the outside maintenance that the HOA provides. Besides the lawn care, trash pickup and snow removal the HOA also paints the exterior trim of the townhouses on a three year cycle, replaces the roofs when needed and the brick walls that run around the perimeter of the backyards. Commuting to the Pentagon

west springfield va: Springfield (VA)-Check Out the Townhouse Community of Charlestown - 09/27/09 06:21 AM
They say that fine wine ages well. The same thing can be said for the townhouse neighborhood of Charlestown in West Springfield. Maybe it is the all brick construction or the tree lined streets that make it standout from other area neighborhoods. It might even be the residents of the neighborhood who have a strong home owners association which even maintains the exterior of the townhouses. But whatever the combination it has worked well for 40 years.Anytime you read an MLS description for Charlestown you will see somewhere the words "dramatic curved staircase." Having lived and owned a townhouse in the

west springfield va: Springfield (VA)-Hidden Pond Nature Center a Wonderful Surprise - 09/26/09 09:41 PM
Perhaps it is a stretch to say that Hidden Pond Nature Center in West Springfield is in plain sight. It wouldn't have been named "hidden pond" if it was. In fact you could drive by the small sign on Keene Mill Road that points to the nature center for years and not realize what was down the road. Tucked at the end of a residential street Hidden Pond Nature Center offers the type of small park that makes it easy for anyone to take a leisurely stroll around the perimeter of the pond and through the woods. At twenty five acres

west springfield va: Greentree Village-It's More Than Just Bricks and Mortar - 05/30/09 02:19 PM
Greentree Village is what you might expect to see in a community in Fairfax County, Virginia. Located in West Springfield, the neighborhood seems typical of many in the area. Brick front townhouses backing to trees and grassy islands slow traffic down for the kids to be able to play safely. Across the street from the neighborhood is one of the 380 parks maintained by the Fairfax County Park Authority. A Fairfax County Connector bus stop is at the entrance to the neighborhood, within 15 minutes is the Springfield Metro, the Rolling Valley and Sydenstricker Slug Lines are all close by as well. Multiple shopping

west springfield va: Springfield (VA)-Enjoying Lake Accotink Through the Years - 05/01/09 07:17 PM
Growing up my friends and I could ride our bikes from our homes in Springfield to Lake Accotink Park to spend a few hours exploring the paths throughout the park. Our family would enjoy a Sunday picnic on the grounds in the summer, my dad fished during trout season and we ice skated on the stream below the dam in the winter. When my children were growing up the tradition continued with bike rides around the 3.75 mile path that loops around the lake and through the woods. From our homes in Kings Park or later Charlestown we could enter the park

west springfield va: West Springfield (VA)-Finding a Home Close to a Slug Line - 04/28/09 07:32 AM
If you are just moving to West Springfield (VA) from another part of the country the term "slug line" make you go YUCK. However for anyone who has lived in the area for awhile the term "slug line" means a great way to get from a West Springfield neighborhood to the Pentagon or other major DC employment areas. One of the questions that anyone relocated to the area asks is about public transportation options. Once newcomers understand the value of a slug line...it is FREE then they wonder if they can find a home within a mile of a slug line. The good

west springfield va: Insiders Guide-Five Year Sales History in Saratoga (West Springfield VA) - 04/04/09 05:10 AM
Tracking the sales history of various West Springfield (VA) neighborhoods closely is important for me to be able to provide advice to buyers and sellers. Since we have just completed the first quarter of real estate sales for 2009, trying to predict whether this year will see an increase or decrease in sales volume for the entire year seems premature. It is also important to consider that not all neighborhoods or zip codes trend up or down at the same time. This week after previewing a number of properties for a family with an upcoming tour to Fort Belvoir I compiled the last five years of sales

west springfield va: Saratoga in Springfield VA-Welcoming the New East Campus of Fort Belvoir - 04/03/09 05:35 PM
Chances are you will encounter a deer or two in your yard in the Saratoga neighborhood in West Springfield (VA.) With the pockets of woods scattered throughout the neighborhood you will also see rabbits and foxes too. The wildlife is just one reason that make Saratoga a neighborhood that stays on the list of sought after West Springfield neighborhoods. Now with the new National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency being built on the Fort Belvoir Engineering Proving Grounds, buyers will have another reason to consider the Saratoga neighborhood. The Engineering Proving grounds are considered the "New Campus East" as part of BRAC and when

west springfield va: Look Mommy "Popcorn Trees" - 04/03/09 01:20 PM
The parents liked the Charlestown neighborhood in West Springfield for its all brick townhouses, proximity to transportation and shopping. However four year old Annabelle liked it because it was the first place she had ever seen where popcorn grew on trees.Everyone has their reasons for liking a neighborhood to call home. As Realtors® we have to listen to what our clients like and work to help them find the place that feels right. If Annabelle has her way the neighborhood with the popcorn trees will be the one that her parents call home. If your family has a need for a

west springfield va: West Springfield (VA) What Has Happened to Sales in Charlestown 2004-2008 - 03/25/09 07:33 AM
Since we are still early in the 2009 real estate sales cycle, trying to predict whether this year will see an increase or decrease in sales volume for the year seems premature. It is also important to consider that not all neighborhoods or zip codes trend up or down at the same time. One of the neighborhoods that I track closely is Charlestown in West Springfield. This week after showing multiple properties to a military family within an upcoming tour to the Pentagon I compiled the last five years of sales data for the neighborhood. Since Charlestown has multiple floorplans from 2 BR/1.5 BA

west springfield va: Insiders Guide-Welcome to the Twin West Springfield Neighborhoods - 03/24/09 06:47 PM
If you are traveling down Rolling Road between Lake Braddock Road and the Fairfax County Parkway you will pass two communities that look very similar. There is a reason for this similarity. Both communities were built by Richmarr homes starting in the late 1960's and feature the same style brick homes.Kings Park is the bigger of the two communities with 1100 homes to West Springfield Village's 423 homes but the models are the same, King, Queen, Prince, Duke and Duchess. Besides having the same model homes available in both neighborhoods, Richmarr also left many of the large trees on the quarter

west springfield va: Charlestown Townhouses-Williamsburg Comes to Northern Virginia - 03/24/09 06:46 PM
Are you looking for a way to spend the $8000 first time home buyer's incentive? Then you might want to consider the all brick townhouses in the Charlestown neighborhood in West Springfield to use your piece of the incentive. You don't find many neighborhoods that have been as well maintained as this one. With an HOA that does all of the outside maintenance including a three year paint schedule, roofing, sidewalks, brick courtyard walls and front landscaping it means that you can have your weekends free to enjoy all of the nearby activities. While the neighborhood is primarily made up of three
