wordless wednesday: Wordless Wednesday-Are You My Mother? - 04/25/12 12:04 PM
Glanced over last night and found Alley Cat staring intently at this poster in my living room. I wondered if she was thinking; are you my mother or perhaps take me to our leader? Alley is a rescue and rarely seems to sleep which has earned her the nickname "crack kitty." At least this time she sat still long enough for me to grab my phone and snap a picture.

wordless wednesday: Wordless Wednesday-Can You Hear The Laughter As The School Bell Rings? - 03/07/12 02:31 PM
The Sydenstricker School in Springfield VA was the last one room school house in operation in Fairfax County. It closed in 1939 but the building is still used today and maintained as a community meeting hall by the Upper Pohick Community League. The belfry contains the original school bell purchased in 1920's from the Sears Roebuck store in Alexandria. When you walk around the building and see the belfry and bell on the post you can imagine children laughing and headed into the school house. The Upper Pohick Community League applied this week to get the school placed on the

wordless wednesday: Duck Hunters Be Prepared To Walk The Plank - 02/01/12 07:09 PM
Wonder if the hunters who want to use this duck blind are required to say ARRRGGG like a pirate before they walk the plank? You'd have to good balance to make it without getting your feet wet but if ducks don't mind wet feet why should you?

wordless wednesday: Wordless Wednesday-Always Remember To Keep Your Laser Focus - 12/21/11 10:43 AM
This is Alley Cat's first Christmas Tree. She has sniffed every branch and figured out that it has a new watering bowl attached. We've just about decided putting anything breakable on the tree will be a receipe for disaster. Now about those glowing eyes...YIKES.

wordless wednesday: Wordless Wednesday-Reflection on a Fall Day - 11/09/11 05:27 PM
Today may have been the last of the perfect fall days in Northern Virginia. The call of Burke Lake and a stroll around the 4.7 mile trail that wanders the perimeter of the lake were to hard to resist. Along the way I couldn't help but notice the reflection of the fall trees in the water and wish for just a few more days of feeling the warm sunshine on my shoulders.

wordless wednesday: Wordless Wednesday-Even Extroverts Need A Break Now And Then - 10/12/11 03:11 PM
Birds of a feather might flock together but occasionally even the most social of birds needs a little down time. This sandpiper seemed to be oblivious to anyone feathered or not who was walking along the shoreline with him. Even extroverts need down time to recharge their batteries and get away from the chirping of other birds or in my case the sound of the ringing phone. Hope you find a place to recharge your batteries this week.

wordless wednesday: Wordless Wednesday-Don't Get Distracted By Those Flitting Around You - 09/28/11 04:32 PM
In a time when Realtors® are constantly being bombarded by the next best thing it's easy to get distracted. Should I be on Twitter, what about Facebook, Google + and oh lord there is the whole SEO thing happening. This Egret is keeping an eye on his goal...dinner...yet if you look closely at the water around him you will see the splashes of dozens of bugs who are flitting all around him.Remember to keep your eye on your goal and not let those flitting around you distract you from success.

wordless wednesday: Wordless Wednesday-Understanding the Art of Concentration - 09/21/11 01:42 PM
Though his big cousin Woody Woodpecker might be more recognizable with his big red head this Downy Woodpecker knows the art of concentration. In a world where we always seem to be trying to multi-task concentrating on getting one thing done and done well should still be foremost on our mind. This guy's concentration will lead to a meal. What will your concentration lead to?

wordless wednesday: Wordless Wednesday-Rain Rain Go Away Come Again Another Day - 09/07/11 11:41 AM
Since the east coast is under the remnants of Tropical Storm Lee most of the week photos most of us need a little splash of color from our memories. In this case it's an Eastern Swallowtail Butterfly that is making a bright spot in my day. Hopefully if your skies are gray it will help perk up your day too.

wordless wednesday: Wordless Wednesdays-A Friendly Wave From the Garden Caught My Attention - 08/31/11 09:48 AM
As I approached the garden the man inside gave me a quick wave. Well "hello" I started to say when I realized he might not have a lot to say. He is one of the most dapper scarecrows I've ever seen and by the looks of the flourishing garden his friendly wave is keeping the birds from snacking on the tomatoes. Wonder where he got that nice suit?

wordless wednesday: Wordless Wednesday-There's No Place Like Home On A Summer Day - 08/24/11 05:29 PM
There's noting more refreshing on a summer day then to stick your feet in a cool pond. Though I draw the line at eating flies this does look like a nice way to pass a little time. If you live in Northern Virginia wander through the Winkler Botanical Preserve in Alexandria. It's a hidden little treasure right off I-395 and N. Beauguard Street.

wordless wednesday: Worldess Wednesday-But Mom I Was Only Flapping My Wings - 08/10/11 09:40 PM
Fortunately practice landings on this NO WAKE sign on the Occoquan River aren't in violation of the law. This Osprey family seems to have figured out the best place for their nest is hovering over their favorite treat...fish. Makes for a short trip to bring home a meal and of course they can keep an eye out for boaters who do violate the NO WAKE rules and provide them with a special after dinner treat.

wordless wednesday: Wordless Wednesday-My What Long Eyelashes You Have - 07/20/11 09:37 PM
This young buck was enjoying a snack along the boardwalk at Teddy Roosevelt Island in DC. With all of the lush greenery to eat and shade to keep him cool from the heat wave he appeared to be unfazed by someone with a camera only a few feet away. Love the long eyelashes and the soft fuzz on his growing antlers.

wordless wednesday: Once A Loved Home-Now Waiting For the Wrecking Ball - 01/26/11 10:24 AM
While out taking photos for a new listing I came across this wonderful old home in Prince William County VA. I was struck by the old tin roof, the scallop detail and porthole window on the front gable. There is no doubt that at one point in time this must have been a beautiful home. The ravage of time and encroach of development have left it abandoned waiting for tear down. It seemed appropriate for a black and white photo as this may have been the way the original photos of the home would have been taken.

wordless wednesday: Wordless Wednesday-Making Tracks Through Time - 12/29/10 01:13 PM
It wasn't bigfoot wandering through the hills of Morrison Colorado it was Dinosaurs. Lots of them in fact. The tracks are estimated to be 100 million years old and this site is where the world’s first Stegosaurus was discovered. Reflecting on what happened to a majority of the dinosaurs over time makes me wonder, how many Realtors® ended up disappearing over the last few years because they didn't adapt to the changes in our industry? Something to think about as we head into 2011.

wordless wednesday: Wordless Wednesday-Just Doing My Job in The Garden Today - 06/16/10 12:20 PM
This little Harlequin Ladybird is doing her part in my daughter's garden and helping Mother Nature by keeping the aphids off the Swiss chard. The ladybird is most commonly seen in the US in red and known as a ladybug. However these beneficial little ladies like to dress for work in more than one color.

wordless wednesday: Wordless Wednesday-The Land Where Time Stood Still - 04/14/10 07:59 PM
Did you ever come across something so incongruous that you have to wonder how in the world did that happen? Of course logic tells me that someone else walking on this path before me found this little fellow among the debris that had washed on shore and placed him on the log. However my imagination had a lot more fun wondering about his journey from a land where time stood still.

wordless wednesday: Wordless Wednesday-A Pop of Purple In the Rocks - 04/07/10 06:56 AM
The Occoquan Wildlife Refuge in Woodbridge VA is a wonderful place to enjoy a walk along the Occoquan River. Though most people are looking towards the sky bird watching there are also flowers popping up in places you wouldn't expect. In this case these flowers had managed to pop up among the rocks at the rivers edge. A great contrast to the gray of the rocks and easy to miss if you are scanning the horizon for Ospery, Blue Herons and Bald Eagles.

wordless wednesday: Wordless Wednesday-My How Times Have Changed in Real Estate - 03/31/10 07:49 PM
While sorting through some family paperwork I came across this receipt for a credit report and FHA appraisal from my parents first and only home purchase in Springfield VA in 1955. Wouldn't our buyers today be happy with an FHA appraisal fee of $20.00? If you are thinking about buying a home now in Springfield VA or anywhere in Northern Virginia give me a call. Though home prices aren't what they were in 1955 there are still some great deals available and a month left before the tax credit expires.

wordless wednesday: Wordless Wednesday-A Jungle Only Steps to the Beach - 11/25/09 05:03 AM
It was interesting to find this "jungle" just a few steps off the beach in Lido Key FL last weekend. One minute we were walking on pure white sand and the next we felt as if we had stepped back in time. The tributaries were full of small fish and blue herons, egrets and a bald eagle were all staking out their claim to lunch. It is amazing what you can find if you just take a few minutes to step off the beaten path.
