nar: Why NAR shouldn’t Ban Short sales - 06/13/08 04:58 AM

You possibly have read the post “NAR should ban Short Sales”. Let me strongly disagree. Even if they could, they shouldn’t. We all need succesfull short sales and no-one more than lenders. I understand the frustration with the process. Lenders present to us total inability to handle the volume. But it is not just the volume. Most lenders “defend” themselves from doing short sales in a false hope that right after foreclosure, the price will move up again. They simply didn’t adjust to the new reality that it might take a while for prices to start moving up again. … (8 comments)

nar: California Association of Realtors sees "the light" - 05/31/08 04:03 AM
Better late than never:
"The (California) state Realtor group announced this month that 61 MLSs and local Realtor groups in the state have sent non-binding letters of intent to participate in the statewide MLS effort. There are 70 MLSs in the state."
"The goal is to launch the statewide database either in the last quarter of this year or the first quarter of 2009."
Trulia is setting not a bad example on how the search could (or should) look like that MLS' cannot disregard anymore. Have you seen new Trulia's listing capabilities? Quite remarkable. At the sam time Trulia is getting … (6 comments)

nar: I am stun that someone would even consider it - 10/17/07 02:59 AM

I have just come across of the Brian Brady's post Bloggers: Be Afraid of the Big Bad Broker and am just amazed that something like this might happen. As I mentioned in my reply to it -  You commented on: "Bloggers: Be Afraid of the Big, Bad Broker (or Bank) "  - I cannot believe that someone would attempt something so shortsighted.  I thought that San Francisco Association of Realtors decision to discontinue public access to MLS was rather shortsighted (I am sure that Peter Flynn - Trulia's CEO loves SFAR for that - they just gave away all public traffic … (11 comments)

nar: Comments on "Call for Supplanting NAR" from Mark Nadel - 09/12/07 04:43 AM
Just about two weeks ago I published post "Call for Supplanting NAR", where I commented on the post of Greg Swann , the Bloodhound Blog editor under this title. I mentioned that I am not convinced to the proposed idea. I share my doubts with Mark Nadel, the author of "A Critical Assessment of the Traditional Residential Real Estate Broker Commission Rate Structure".  Mark replied and provided very interesting comments to Greg's idea. Here is Marks response (he authorized me to share it):
Artur   Thanks for your email and for publicizing my article again.   I had not seen Greg Swann's … (9 comments)

nar: Call for Supplanting NAR - 08/31/07 03:10 AM
Greg Swann, created another interesting post Bloodhound Blog:
Supplanting the National Association of Realtors will turn it into a toothless vampire overnight Greg's post was triggered by another call of the Minnesota Association of Realtors for some of its members to quit to give other members a chance to make money (doesn't it reminds you the Animal Farm's statement that some people or more equal than others?). Greg calls for supplanting NAR and argues that:
"What is needed is an analogue to the Underwriters Laboratories for residential real estate agents, an objectively determined standard of excellence — hard to … (8 comments)

nar: Is your income below $12,000 per year? - 08/12/07 05:02 AM
Jim Walker (look up also his Trulia Voice profile) published the following question/request on Trulia Voice earlier today: Agents! Do you know what Nadel's 4 questions are? Read his 66 page polemic to learn to defend yourselves.
For those who don’t know, Mr. Nadel is an attorney/policy adviser with the federal government who published a paper on real estate commissions. Jim sees it as a must read for those who “want to understand the attempts to undermine real estate brokerage, in order to understand the rate cutters arguments, or to defend your profession”.  I agree with Jim on the “must … (17 comments)

nar: GOOD and BAD about NAR: Can we fix NAR? - 07/15/07 05:50 AM
Reading Instructions: If you are a NAR member, please take your “NAR hat” off and read this post as an individual. This post does not intend to offend anyone. Many of you feel strongly on this subject on either side of the issue and I certainly respect it. I will tell you when it is time to put your NAR hat back.
Recently the he U.S. District Court in Chicago allowed the Department of Justice (DOJ) suit against NAR to proceed. The key point – DOJ alleges that NAR discriminates against brokers using non-traditional business models, “denying them the full benefits … (50 comments)
