Top 5 Reasons "it isn't selling" - 12/28/10 01:25 AM
We as REALTORS get lots of questions ranging from how's business to should I paint my dining room red...some of those questions get repeated over and over again.  So, here is one I received recently, that I have heard before.  Why isn't my home selling?
I received this from a Fishers Indiana resident:
If you have been reading the Fishers market reports, you know the number of homes for sale in Fishers is increasing.  There are nearly 200 homes on the market in Fishers that have been there for longer than 120 days.  It's certainly tough out there, but here are my … (22 comments)

A 285 ft Christmas Tree...in my house? - 12/24/10 04:12 AM
For Christmas Eve...I present a Beautiful Tree !
But, it isn't in my house other than it is on my computer at the moment!  It has been decorated and lit up annually since 1962 and uses 5,000 lights and 52 strands of garland.  More than 100,000 people attend the event; held the day after Thanksgiving every year.
It is the Indianapolis Soldiers and Sailors Monument and it does stand just shy of 285 feet, which is just about 21 feet shorter than the Statue of Liberty.
Couple of fun facts are it took 12 years to complete and in today's dollars would cost $500,000,000; … (19 comments)

Holiday Season Stage It Forward - 12/23/10 11:21 AM
What do gently used wreaths, nursing homes and a quest for wreath door hangers have in common…well today, they have ME in common.
The hardest part of this excursion was finding the door hangers…you’d think they would be everywhere (Dollar Store, CVS, Walgreens) but no…not at this time of the year.  So after about six trips I finally had the five I needed.
There is a nursing home I drive by almost daily; often in the summer time residents are outside getting some fresh air.  We joke in my family about our daughters putting us in a fine home one day … (26 comments)

Pay It Forward - Helping Hands - 12/21/10 07:47 PM
I work in a Brokerage firm for Keller Williams and we have lots of people in our office that make the transactions go smoother from start to finish.  Vicki (DOFI) puts all of our listings in for us and load pictures, makes changes, answers the phones, makes copies, scans…you know the drill.
Beth (MCA) makes sure our computers are running, our paperwork is flawless and that we are paid.  She coordinates all of our Regional educational events too.  She is ALWAYS happy and has a smile on her face; I don’t know how she does it!
I very much appreciate … (12 comments)

The Buying Triangle - 12/21/10 08:13 AM
I think this is an excellent diagram for so many lines..."If I could put this house on that lot" or "I want a huge lot but a new house" or "champagne taste with a beer budget" for starters!  We've all had buyers that take longer to get their arms around their wants, needs and budget.
Thanks Valerie from Canada!

Classic Christmas Newsletter -I've protected the innocent - 12/19/10 08:21 AM
Definitely not a speechless Sunday; but this needs very little introduction.  We have all seen those "precious" newsletters...but this one...this one is a classic.  I received it in the mail today, I've protected the innocent.

Pay It Forward - Rain Reciprocal 'Riting - 12/16/10 06:57 AM
Most of us on the Rain like the attention of a Featured Post.  It says to the masses, I wrote something you should read.   It's a feel good moment for the writer.
But what about the reader?  They take the time to read the post, or at least scan it and even after 50 comments they still make a comment.  And it's probably true for many, they already did their 10 for the day....so they are commenting because they like what you said, not for the points.
The first level of thanks is for the writer to write a comment back … (41 comments)

Things happening in Geist in December - 12/14/10 10:46 PM
While the boating is finished for the season, there is still plenty to do in the Geist area during this holiday season.  It's always a happening place!
This Friday you can see Rick Mattillo at the Casler's Bar on Olio and 116th (SE corner) from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.  Rick plays acoustic music and the food is fabulous.
Gregg Bacon will be at Bella Vita on Thursday, December 16th playing cool jazz with his saxophone!

Fishers Indiana Real Estate Market Report November 2010 - 12/14/10 02:25 PM
Some interesting statistics as we review the Fishers Real Estate Market report for November.  Let's start with the good news!  The average price of a homes selling in Fishers was $253,800 for November 2010; compared with $204,800 a year ago.  That a 25% increase in pricing.  Two things are happening to create that good news, homes in Fishers are selling for more $/sq ft than a year ago and higher priced homes are selling than a year ago.
The average price per square foot was $99 this month compared to $95 a year ago.
Now on to the less than good … (0 comments)

Carmel Indiana Real Estate Market Report November 2010 - 12/10/10 07:11 AM
This is certainly a frustrating time for sellers anywhere in the U.S.  And it is in the Carmel Indiana Real Estate market too; it is taking longer to sell homes and they are selling for less.  If you are a buyer, you can certainly be reaping the benefits.
Here are the results for my local area, Carmel Indiana.  There were 67 homes closed in November 2010 compared with 120 in November 2009.  There were 10 distressed homes in both years for November; but the %age is higher in 2010 since there were fewer total homes sold.
The days on the market were 107 … (26 comments)

Pay it Forward - for the Children - 12/09/10 01:49 PM
Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.” ~ Dr. Seuss

Ample opportunities to pay it forward this month; and our Keller Williams office made it so easy.  One of our agents is involved with St. Mary’s Child Center; an organization that  focuses on helping young children (ages 3-5) who are at risk for social, emotional, economic and environmental problems.  Having kids of my own...it is always easy to pick a charity around kids to help.

It was founded in 1961 by a group of concerned parents.  But the real … (9 comments)

Twas the night before a Contest...and all through the Rain - 12/07/10 04:10 PM
Twas the night before a contest, and all through the Rain
Not a blogger was writing, not even ones who are insane
The contest posts were all written with care
In hopes that Bob Stewart soon would be there
The members were all nestled all snug in their beds
While visions of points danced in their heads
And Kerrie in her rock climbing gear and I with my toast
Had just settled down to judge all the posts
When out on the site, there arose such a clatter
I sprang from my desk to see what was the matter
Away to the 'puter I flew … (66 comments)

When Did Real Estate Become A Game? - 12/07/10 08:21 AM

12642 Shorevista For Sale - 12/06/10 07:34 AM
I was recently contacted by the owner of this property and he agreed to let me post his awesome home on this blog.  It is rare to find a contemporary home in our Geist Waterfront area, but this is stunning.   This home is located in Admirals Bay in the Geist Real Estate area.  It has nearly 3,500 sq ft (main/upper) and an additional 2,000 sq ft finished walkout basement.
With its asymmetrical exterior, hardwood floors in most of the main floor living space, 26′ soaring ceilings, and massive windows overlooking the Geist Reservoir, it is breath taking.
Add to that the 16 x 32 … (0 comments)

Caring Creates Commitment-Pay it Foward - 12/04/10 06:07 PM
Have you changed your facebook profile to the cartoon character of your childhood yet?  Did you have a trip down memory lane looking for the one that fit you best.  Did you type into Google "70's cartoon characters" like I did?   It is one of the more successful campaigns making the rounds on facebook.  But will it change anything?   The campaign is around ending child abuse.
This week, heck the last few weeks have given an amazing array of donation opportunities.

Bayhill in Carmel Indiana - 12/03/10 03:14 PM
Water is certainly a premium in the Indianapolis area...but image looking out your wall of windows over this body of water each morning!  It is Bayhill in Carmel, located on 126th in between Hazeldell and Gray Roads.  It is very convenient to shopping, schools and restaurants.
Bayhill in Carmel is a community of approximately 250 homes; many with water or wooded views. They were built in the mid 1990s and most have basements and three car garages.
There is not a great deal of turnover in the neighborhood with only 7 selling in calendar 2010. There are currently 4 active homes; … (2 comments)

My Kodak Moment - Loving our Moms - 80 - 12/01/10 03:37 PM
First, I love my mom...always have.  But, growing up, I was the only one in my family to go to college.  My mom really didn't get it...she never understood why I wanted to do that, what I did in my career (back when I was an Accountant) or why I moved away from my hometown.  She didn't come to my graduation, just didn't think it was that big of a deal.  I was 20 something and was sure I knew everything there was to know.   I went on my merry way and didn't have that close relationship that so many of … (21 comments)

First Time Home Buyers Class in Fishers - 12/01/10 03:09 PM
This is truly a magical time of the year; with the holidays many people will become engaged and start to plan their weddings.  They also may begin to look for that first home to begin their new life.  For planning a wedding, many people will turn to their parents and to events like the Perfect Wedding Guide shows.  (By the way, those are excellent venue's to see multiple vendors such as photographers, florist, cakes, etc).
For buying a first home, many people will again turn to their parents and hopefully an experienced Realtor®.  As a local Fishers Realtor, I hold a … (1 comments)
