The Fountain is GREEN!OK, not going-green to save the environment but the color green. Fountian Hills, Arizona hosts an ealry Saint Patrick's Day celebration. Good food, fun booths, entertainment and the famous fountain proudly supports the special day by going green! The majectic Fountain added a lucky rainbow to celebrate the Luck of the Irish. It was definitely worth the short trip from Scottsdale to Fountain Hills to see the beautiful shades of green picturesquely displayed by the fountain. The new $789 billion stimulus plan has added provisions designed to help promote energy-efficient investments in homes and tax Incentives to encourage energy savings and create green jobs. Some of the benefits include: Providing $5 Billion for energy efficient improvements for more than one million modest-income homes through weatherization. Some estimate that this could help save an average of $350 a year on heating and air conditioning bills. I have blogged previously regarding solar tax rebates. Today I received a letter from our local electric company Arizona Public Service (APS) regarding the savings that can come from using solar power. Up to 15% of your energy bill comes from heating water! APS is e now offering 'generous' rebates if a client installs a solar water heater. They also stated that the client could take advantage of both state and federal tax credits. The total savings could be up to 80% off the cost of a solar water heater! The higher quality produce, the healthy better taste and the reduced cost of transportation contribute to the movement toward locally grown produce. The advantages of locally grown fruits and vegetables has become increasingly popular with not only the farmers markets but also with mainstream stores such as Whole Foods and Wal-Mart. Green building has both economic and public health benefits. Although energy-efficient technology is catching on, building green isn't second nature yet to real estate owners. However, as the technology progresses and the standards evolve over time, the general public will become more aware of the benefits. This type of home will eventually become the ‘norm’. Will states eventually adopt of a new Green Building Code? California is leading the way at this time. The future will tell. In an effort to continue to direct the future of alternative energy and to move our country forward to energy independence, the latest financial bailout bill approved Oct. 3, 2008 not only extended the energy tax credits for eight years but also the significantly increased the amount of incentives available! At least one area of the bailout bill that could actually give back money to ‘main street America’. The solar investment tax credit (ITC) provision authorizes $800 million for clean energy bonds for renewable energy generating facilities, including solar. Thinking of going "Green"?? Arizona Public Service Co. is introducing a new loan program that would allow customers to install solar panels on their houses at virtually no up-front charge. This can still be expensice but solar power will become very viable and more affordable in the future. Studies have shown that nearly 50% efficiency being reached in testing the solar panels.
