There are still some lingering signs of winter, but the calendar reminds us that we are only weeks away from spring. Yay! After living in Florida for over 30 years, I had forgotten just how spectacular spring really is until we relocated to western North Carolina nearly 11 years ago. Now it's my second favorite season (second only to fall). As the daytime temperatures start to warm up, so do the thoughts of enjoying the great outdoors. Transylvania County in western North Carolina is known as the "Land of Waterfalls" for a reason and if you're planning a trip to the area this summer, check out this great interactive tool from the County's Tourist Development Association. It's that time of year again! Time to go nuts for the 2010 White Squirrel Festival. It's all happening May 28-29 in downtown Brevard, NC. The center piece of the two day festival, voted the best music festival in Western North Carolina by the Asheville Citizen Times readers in 2008, is the music. Performances by 19 different groups begins both days at noon and goes until 10:30 pm. But music is just a part of this annual event. One of the highlights is the Squirrel Box Derby.
