brevard nc: Brevard NC Real Estate - A Year End Review of 2011 - 01/03/12 01:34 PM
2011 is now just a vision in our rear view mirror but before we get too far down the road and into a new year, we wanted to give you a brief look back at the local real estate market here in the Brevard, NC area and the various ups and downs that happened during this past year.  There is so much on the news about real estate (and don't we all wish for a speedy and full recovery!) but real estate is a regional, even local issue so here is what has happened here in our back yard.
The good … (0 comments)

brevard nc: In Search of a Perfect Dog - 10/16/11 01:46 PM
Just as there are no perfect people, there is no perfect dog but author Gary Shiebler tells the funny and sometimes heartbreaking stories of all the "less than perfect dogs" that he has shared his life with since he was a child.
As someone who volunteers with our animal rescue groups here in Brevard, NC, and mom to two rescue dogs, Ace and Sunny, I related to so many of the stories Shiebler tells, especially the ones about the dogs he met while working at an animal center.  I found myself laughing out loud at some of the stories...and crying through … (6 comments)

brevard nc: A sweet deal on a sweet mountain get away - Brevard, NC 28712 - 07/22/11 03:15 PM
Temperatures around most of the country are soaring! If all this heat and humidity has you thinking about little get away place in the cool mountains of western North Carolina, I'd like to tell you about this home at 3530 Frozen Creek Road just outside of Brevard, NC.
This is a two bedroom, one bath home that sits on nearly 4 acres of flat, easily accessible land with a bold, rushing creek that seems custom made for kids and dogs. Two outbuildings, a pond, and horse corral give the property loads of charm and added possibilities. Best of all, Gorges State … (1 comments)

brevard nc: Conspiracy on Aisle 5 - 07/16/11 01:11 PM
I don't know anyone who really enjoys going to the grocery store, especially these days when the price of a loaf of bread is approaching the price of a gallon of gas. But yesterday's trip to my local store presented more than the usual challenges of finding creative, affordable ways to keep my family healthy and fed well without breaking the bank. What I uncovered were some intentional, and some unintentional attempts to alter the amount of money I spend without me really noticing.
There is a science to product placement and layout in any retail store, but it's especially so … (4 comments)

brevard nc: A Little Gift From Life - 06/25/11 09:13 AM
Once in awhile life gives us a little gift, like being in the right place at the right time. It happened to Robert the other day when he was out at Connestee Falls Country Club, just south of Brevard, NC. He had just left an an appointment where he listed three lots for sale in Connestee and was driving along one of the main roads inside the development when he saw a deer out of the corner of his eye. It's not at all unusual to see deer when you're in Connestee. They're like squirrels...they're every where! But what came next … (3 comments)

The list of reasons why the Brevard, NC is such a wonderful place to live is long, but at the top of the list is the healthy life style. There are hundreds of miles of hiking trails, rivers to navigate, and of course clean mountain air. One of our local businesses, Gaia Herbs, is part of that healthy life style and now you can get a first hand look at the farm and how the herbs we consume are grown.

brevard nc: "We're thinking about relocating to Brevard, NC" - 04/30/11 10:22 AM
I love getting emails and phone calls that start with "We're thinking about relocating to Brevard" because it opens the door for me to tell people why we love living here so much.  All the real estate numbers, information about homes and land for sale in the Brevard area, information about things to do in Brevard, and what we can do to help them relocate to Brevard all come later because it's the quality life here that really matters.
We relocated to Brevard six years ago from the Tampa Bay area of Florida. We had lived there for 30+ years and … (5 comments)

brevard nc: Maggie Needs Your Help- Brevard NC Animal Rescue - 04/24/11 08:31 PM
MEET MAGGIE

Maggie is a very sweet, blue pit who has lived her life with a congenital defect that left one of her front legs severely deformed. Her other leg which bore the weight is bowed from the stress and is deteriorating. She was rescued recently by Charlie's Angels Animal Rescue in Brevard, NC.  The fact that she had managed, somehow, to live was a miracle. But the true miracle is a family on the other side of the state who has stepped up to adopt her and give her a better life...a life she deserves.  This family already has … (2 comments)

brevard nc: It was Penny's lucky day! - a story of animal rescue in Brevard, NC - 04/21/11 07:14 PM
When the call came in to the volunteers with Charlie’s Angels Animal Rescue (CAAR) in Brevard, North Carolina, it wasn’t all that unusual. Like so many of the calls the organization receives, this was a call for help. Someone had found six puppies at the Transylvania County land fill. For the past two years, one of the land fill employees had been trying to gain the trust of an adult female dog who had made the land fill her home. He fed her and bought her a dog house to provide her with better shelter, but he could never gain enough … (3 comments)

brevard nc: The Power of Pricing - 04/18/11 05:40 PM
Sellers:"I'm not going to give my house away"
Buyers: "I'm looking for a bargain".
I wish I had a dollar for every time I heard those comments from sellers and buyers.  I haven't met a seller yet who says "Heck yea...let's just give it away to first person with a pulse". Likewise, I've never once had a buyer tell me they want to pay too much for a house, no matter what. But the first time we meet with a seller or a buyer I can guarantee that we'll hear one of those statements.
In today's market, it's the buyer who … (4 comments)

brevard nc: The Postmistress by Sarah Blake - A Very Good Read - 04/06/11 09:23 AM
Finding time to read isn't always easy to do, but when I get my hands on a good book like The Postmistress by Sarah Blake, it's worth it. Let the laundry wait, all I want to do is see what happens next with the characters in the story.
Because of a busy schedule, it took me a a couple of weeks and a couple of renewal notices from the Transylvania County library in Brevard before I could really dig into the story, but it's now on my favorites lists. Actually, I wish I had bought the book so I could keep … (2 comments)

The much awaited fly fishing season is here! This part of western North Carolina, especially the East Fork River is widely known as a hot spot for anglers. Today the N.C. brevard nc: Brevard NC Restaurant Review - 03/11/11 09:43 AM
One of the Clay Team's favorite places to eat in Brevard, NC is The Square Root. It's located in the alley between Main Street and Jordan Street making it a perfect place to pop into for lunch or dinner. The atmosphere is relaxed and the food is totally delicious.
The historic building was once the home of the Transylvania Times newspaper and has been restored with a great touch that exudes a combination of art gallery-loft-restaurant. When you walk in, you'll immediately notice the floor. It is a hand-laid, hand-cut wood parquet floor. Each of the wood tiles were hand … (2 comments)

brevard nc: Chasing the Cost of Coffee - Lessons in trying to get by in this economy. - 03/05/11 05:23 PM
The world around us seems to be changing on a daily basis and one of the biggest changes is in the grocery store. Prices just keep going up and up. I can do without a lot of things, but food isn't one of them. Call me crazy...I'm just that way.
Luckily, I love to cook because eating out is getting less and less frequent. So when it is time to make a trip to the grocery store, I look for bargains, clip coupons, shop around for large inexpensive cuts of meat that do well in a slow cooker and scout out … (8 comments)
