Eastside Costa Mesa is a charming area of Costa Mesa which borders Newport Beach, and, as a result, tends to have higher property values than some other areas of the city. It is bounded by Irvine Boulevard on the east, Newport Boulevard on the west, 15th Street on the south and Mesa Drive on the north.
Most of the original lots in Eastside Costa Mesa are around 10,000 square feet, a large size lot in Orange County, which allows for space to expand smaller, older homes if desired.

Originally no more than a way station built by Spanish missionaries, Costa Mesa’s first real estate development occurred in the 1880s. This failed to prosper, but Costa Mesa became an agricultural center known for apples and lima beans.
Long time residents may remember when the area was called Fairview and Paularino, but today, the city is a focal point in Orange County with the Orange County Performing Arts Center, South Coast Repertory Theatre and South Coast Plaza as major drawing points. It is hard to believe that Costa Mesa was once nicknamed “Goat Hill” because of its rural flavor.

$25 and a New Name - Harper becomes Costa Mesa - Costa Mesa History - 09/24/08 12:50 AM
In 1920, the people of Harper came to the conclusion that their city needed a new name, a name that reflected where they lived rather than the name of the farm and farmer where it all started.

They decided to hold a contest and give a $25 prize to the winner.

Mama D's opened in July 2005, just a couple of doors down from my office.  There had been several restaurants in the same location over the years; I believe five in the previous five years.  Having had a few great restaurants that I enjoyed close on me, it was with some trepidation that I decided to have lunch there one day with my husband.  I did not want to find a new favorite restaurant only to have it too disappear.

The morning of September 11, 2001, started out as an ordinary enough day.  My husband and I were in Pennsylvania for my brother-in-law's wedding.  We had spent a week with his family and were headed home. 
We flew out of Philadelphia at 8:28 am, headed home for LA on a beautiful day.

At the end of the last school year, we had to decide whether or not to send my son to kindergarten this fall (he'll be five at the end of October) or to give him another year of preschool.  Once we made the decision to wait another year for kindergarten, we reviewed our options for junior kindergarten.

9% of All Mortgages Are Delinquent or in Default - Mortgage Free Fall? Where Will It Stop? - 09/07/08 06:43 PM
According to the latest numbers from Mortgage Bankers' Association, 9% of all Americans with a home mortgage are either in delinquent or in default on their mortgages.
The effect is being felt in record number of foreclosures and also in bank failures, and now the U.S. Government is planning on taking over Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Fannie and Freddie are government sponsored entities which, between the two of them, own or guarantee nearly one-half of the approximately $12 trillion in mortgages in the U.S.
