How To Add Widgets to Your Active Rain Blog - 12/28/08 12:41 AM
On my post How To Add a PayPal Button, Peter Testa asked me how to add widgets to his Active Rain blog.  I know this was a question I too had at one time, so I thought I would do a quick how to.
The very first step is to see Brad Andersohn/Active Brad's post Approved Widgets to see if AR allows a particular widget.
Once you get through that hurdle, you need to get the script code for the widget.  There is often information for this on the widgets themselves.  For instance, on the Local Schools Widget, there is a link at the bottom of the … (24 comments)

Costa Mesa Real Estate Minute December 27, 2008 - Costa Mesa Market Report - 12/27/08 11:23 PM
Originally no more than a way station built by Spanish missionaries, Costa Mesa's first real estate development occurred in the 1880s. This failed to prosper, but Costa Mesa became an agricultural center known for apples and lima beans.
Long time residents may remember when the area was called Fairview and Paularino, but today, the city is a focal point in Orange County with the Orange County Performing Arts Center, South Coast Repertory Theatre and South Coast Plaza as major drawing points. It is hard to believe that Costa Mesa was once nicknamed "Goat Hill" because of its rural flavor.

Will You Help 5-Year Old Julian this Christmas Season? - 12/26/08 10:18 PM
This November, Julian was your average 5 year old boy.  He loved to build sandcastles, play with his monster trucks and Thomas the Tank Engine.  He loved to pick flowers and give them to people; he was learning to draw and prayed daily for food to drop down from the sky to feed hungry children.

Then one day, unknown to him and his family, everything changed.  He was sick at school.  Ordinarily, this might not be a big deal, but over the next few weeks, Julian and his family would come to find that this was a symptom … (18 comments)

Are you looking to experience a little more Christmas spirit?
For more than 40 years the Jordan Family has presented the Peanuts House at 2269 Santa Ana Avenue, Costa Mesa, CA which has delighted children and adults alike.
Many times, both as a child and as an adult, I remember seeing this home with its incredible display of all things Peanuts.
Last night, I passed by, and it seems to have gotten even better. In Lucy's Dr. is in stand, they were handing out cider; Snoopy was sitting on a bench visiting with the kids, and Santa was taking pictures with … (4 comments)

100th Annual Newport Beach Boat Parade - Updated - 12/18/08 04:48 PM
Most of us think of Sunny Southern California when we consider the weather here in Newport Beach, but yesterday Mother Nature threw a storm at us that effected the first night of the Newport Beach Boat Parade.
Due to potential unstable weather conditions and strong winds, the first night of the 100th Annual Newport Beach Boat Parade was canceled last night.
If permits can be obtained from the City and permssion from Ruby's, which has to shut down for a few hours, is given, then the hope is that the fireworks will be rescheduled for Sunday evening.
If we obtain updated … (10 comments)

Lil' Lighthouse Preschool Christmas Pageant Brings True Joy for Christmas - 12/15/08 01:21 AM
It seem the Christmas season is in full swing.  Last weekend it was Christmas parties; next weekend will be the Newport Beach boat parade and Dylan's first birthday.
But, this week was something special.  This Friday was Lil' Lighthouse Preschool's Christmas Pageant followed by Saturday at the Naple Island boat parade.  The pageant is quite an affair with 3-5 year old children singing their heart out about the true meaning of Christmas.  They dress in either festive Christmas attire or actual costumes and are taught sign language by the teachers to go with the words they sing.
As always, this is an amazing … (8 comments)

What Does Christmas Mean to You? - Enjoying My Son's (Almost) First Christmas - 12/11/08 02:53 AM
Is this Christmas holiday season any different to you than any other?
This year, there are constant reports that there is concern that consumer spending will be down during the holidays.  Why is it that this seems to be more important than other aspects of Christmas?
I know my five year old wants new toys, a remote controlled Tigger he saw on tv, Star Wars legos, but does he really need any of it?  Both of his toy boxes are filled to overflowing as are his closet, the closet under the stairs and our entertainment center.
This year, we're taking a step back … (4 comments)

I Feel Like I've Been on Hiatus and Now It's Back to Real Life - 12/05/08 02:38 AM
It's amazing how much work can build up when you leave for two out of three weeks, especially when one is unexpected.
For months we planned to go to Pennsylvania for my brother-in-law's wedding.

We dreaded the potential complications of traveling with our 11 month old, Dylan and knew 5 year old David would be a trooper, veteran traveller that he is.
We spent 6 days in Pennsylvania, and while we were headed to Pennsylvania, my sister's twins arrived in Texas.

While on the East Coast, we attended Tim and Katie's wedding, I visited NYC with my sister-in-law,

The Twins are Here!! - 12/01/08 12:42 AM
My sister's much anticipated twins arrived on November 12, 2008, (see My Sister's Last Childless Birthday) several weeks ahead of schedule.

They spent the first several days in NICU but were out of the hospital and home after only one week.

Lexi and Logan both weighed in at just about 4.5 pounds and came at just under 34 weeks.
I spent many months trying to explain to Coleen how different life would be with twins, but I don't think there's any way to explain it if you haven't experienced being a parent.  And, even then though I have two boys, … (34 comments)
