Just hit 50,000 points WOW - 02/28/11 07:42 AM
I noticed this morning I hit the 50,000 plateau. I am shooting for the top. In new Mexico. I am now #17 in the state and looking on climbing the proverbial ladder of success.
I have not been on Active Rain that long, but I hope to be around for a long time.
I have a long way to go and will trudge along getting it done one day at a time.
See you at the top. LOL

I have been offered over a "Billion Dollars" - 02/27/11 07:10 AM
I am sure we have all seen the E-Mails about how you are the beneficiary of a lottery or a payment that was supposed to be paid by a company in "Nigeria". Or you have hit the YAHOO, Coke, Google, Bing lottery.
They have even wanted to send me a ATM cards that was to have $100,000.00 per week added to the account so I could spend it as I pleased. Let's not forget about the people that send me E-Mails stating they are dying and want to send me their cash to help the needy and or the homeless.

200,000 strong in the rain. Where is everybody? - 02/26/11 06:44 AM
We have nearly 203,000 members. Wow what a great accomplishment. Now here in new mexico we have about 800 members. Of those 800 there is but a handfull of members that actually use Active Rain.
The majority of the members here in New Mexico, are the I joined "Active Rain" and forgot I did.
Why join an association if you are not going to participate in it? Even if you don't blog every day, even once a week will do.
I have been sending E-mails to various A/R members here in New Mexico to try to get them more involved. I … (16 comments)

An Active Rain Question. - 02/26/11 06:33 AM
Are you a "doer", or are you one of those people that says that would be cool. Some examples.
1. You join the health club, just because you have friends that joined. But you never go.
2. You are a member of several associations, but never attend meetings.
3. You bought that "Hybrid" car but don't really use the features to conserve energy.
4. You bought a lot of Xmas stuff at the year end sale. And it's been sitting in the closet for years.
5. You joined ACTIVE RAIN, but you have not filled out your profile, and never even … (2 comments)

Real friends, wednesday humor. - 02/23/11 07:59 AM
Four friends were rafting down a river in the middle of summer.
Suddenly a canoe was capsized. It sent two of the friends into the cool water. One friend swam the distance to the shore and the other was drifting down stream.
He finally cought onto a big rock, and was stranded. They looked over the situation and realized that they could not get to him with all the swirling water.
One said "we could go to the top of the bank and throw him a rope".
The other two said "we are afraid of heights, we can't do it".

Get ready to sell a home - 02/22/11 07:22 AM
I was in the front yard yesterday with my granddaughter. We were trying to dig some holes for planting some new rose bushes. I had my shovel and she had her plastic shovel as well. Now her name is "Haylee" and she is only 4 years and 9 month old. And she is very opinionated. She wandered off to the very front of the yard and was trying to dig a hole. I asked her what she was trying to do. She said" I am trying to find buried treasure", I chuckled and asked her what she would do with it … (12 comments)

Sunday Morning Going fishing funny. - 02/20/11 09:53 AM
It was a cool morning and all three preachers were going to go fishing. After all it was a saturday and they had a day off before they had to be back at the pulpit.
After a week of sermons and teachings they were ready for a break.
The first preacher was a Baptist that loved preaching and fishing.
The second was a local preacher with the "Church of God"
And the third was a preacher that was visiting from the south and is a member of the Jewish faith.
They had been fishing for about hour when the first preacher … (3 comments)

Home repairs, and who cares. - 02/20/11 07:59 AM
I have been in the construction business for 30 years. When ever a person that knows me needs something or advice they call me. They expect me to jump in my truck and go over to look at what ever they deem as a "look-see, advice".
Once I tell them what they need to do they ask "so what's this going to cost me"?
If I tell them to get a plumber or an electrician, They simply say "can't you do it". This comes from the 30 years of helping "others in the community". Never asking for a fee for … (15 comments)

New Mexico RE Associations want Home inspectors licensed. - 02/19/11 08:11 AM
The new Mexico legislature has introduced a bill that would recommend the licencing of home inspectors.
With the complaints against the existing and former home inspectors on the rise. They think by making it a law that requires a home inspector to have a state license is going to stop the "trivial law suits" they are sadly mistaken.
The lawsuits in question are from home buyers and seller's along with RE PROS. About 90% of the lawsuits are thrown out because of their "lack of merit". Sounds like a bunch of ambulance chasers.
I cannot see how the new "proposed laws" … (4 comments)

Blogging and the little "doohickies" - 02/18/11 07:56 AM
Hello everyone. I am not the best in the world, heck not even in Carlsbad new Mexico where I live.
I am talking about all the little "DOOHICKIES" you guys add to your blogs. I am wandering how you guys find all that stuff to add to your blogs. Like the simple little things from a waterfall to cartoon stuff. Do you spend hours looking all over the web for the right pictures to add to your blogs.
And once you have found the picture or image you want to use, how do you save it to use it later? Now … (6 comments)

Putting Inspectors in their place. - 02/18/11 07:43 AM
We all have opinions of how an inspection should go. But, have you ever complained to the inspector for writing up something in a report that shouldn't be there ? Then with all the asking you couldn't get the inspector to remove the item or rewrite the report.
Remember all inspections are "non invasive". Meaning as an inspector we are not going to be tearing into walls to "try to see something we cannot without tearing into a wall or any part of the home".
In most all cases we will remove panels for the electrical and service door entries. … (6 comments)

New FBI rules for new Homeland security bill passed this week. - 02/13/11 07:57 AM
Next in line is the internet and tracking all who is on it. The new bill that passed the house this week is for the benefit of the "American security". Really. The director of the FBI, says there will be little difference in the way we can and will use the internet.
Go to the following link to find out the "subtle" changes in the way our government watches how we use the internet.

Furnaces and the Quandary of the home owner. - 02/12/11 06:58 AM
So it's a little "cool" in the house. I had a friend of the family stop by last week and ask me if I could help him out. He said his furnace was a little cooler than normal and wanted me to look at it.
He wanted my advice on the replacement of the unit because the "furnace repairman said it was bad and needed to be replaced now". Why he asked? "There is a crack in the heat exchanger".
I went and looked at it and ran an efficiency test on it. A 1969 Coleman furnace. When … (11 comments)

Inspections. Want to save money? - 02/11/11 06:44 AM
I hear this from morning to night. I already try to save as much as I can for the "Buyer or seller". Depending on who has hired me. I have lost a number of jobs to the dreaded word, "waiver".
But I remain undeterred. I will and am saving money for the client's. When they get an inspection from me, they receive the best inspection money can buy. My inspection fee's start at $200.00, very low and affordable for the buyer or seller.
Problem is that the local "RE" agents are telling the buyers they don't need to spend for an … (9 comments)

Are you a jokester? - 02/09/11 07:11 AM
Are you a Jokester. Do you like to use words of humor when confronted with the opportunity to use them?
I don't mean being bad with your comments. Do you get a feel for the client's you are with and know who will take a joke and who can't?
Case in point: I did an inspection where there was a dog kennel in the back yard. I was there with the husband and wife (buyers). They seemed like a jovial couple.
They saw the kennel and said they didn't have a dog, I said "oh that's not for dogs" the … (9 comments)

To Blog or not to Blog. Thats the question. - 02/08/11 08:07 AM
To Blog or not to. That's the question. I try to have either information I can pass on to others or have the "question of the day". But when I need to ask something simple, do I blog it. Seems like a waste of the space on the board.
I try to keep the blogs simple and informative as best I can. I didn't like English in school, and it probably shows. But the good news is "I know what I am talking about when it comes to inspecting a home. I offer energy audits as well. Talk about a … (8 comments)

Another funny - 02/03/11 07:36 AM
A salesman was traveling out west when he had some car trouble. He pulled over and a horse come over to the fence, like horses do.
The salesman raised the hood and looked the motor over, Hmmmm, he said to himself.
Then he heard a voice from behind him say, " it's the alternator" Huh, thought the salesman, Who said that. There was no answer, and no one was there.
After looking for a while longer he heard the same voice say "I said it was the alternator". He looked around and thought he was going mad.
He went to the house … (6 comments)

Real Estate Sales, any advice? - 02/03/11 05:14 AM
Well I've done it this time. With all the "yapping" about Active Rain, I've gotten my daughter in law interested in real estate sales. I told her she needs to go talk to the Biggest and best sales team in town.
I gave her the number to call the broker and she made an appointment.
After the meeting she returned and said "sounds and looks like I'm going to be a "associate broker", I guess they don't use the term "sales people" anymore. She will be tutored by the broker himself. She did it all herself.
I didn't call anyone … (10 comments)

Groundhog Day in Canada, winter is staying for a while? - 02/01/11 06:08 AM
Yes, The Canadians have a groundhog day to. But it think it will be a long winter. As they want to "pluck" their furry friend from his winter domicile. Is the sun going to give the critter a shadow of course it is,
if your at 50,000 feet above the earth.
But on earth there will be the arctic blast that just about everyone in the country is feeling just about now.
Mother nature an old man winter has teamed up to say "we are in charge and we want snow and cold".
Look out if they ever decided to have … (2 comments)
