Second Annual Winter Market in Shain Park in Downtown Birmingham Michigan was held December December 2 – 4. The city welcomed the holiday tradition with a rich European flavor. Activities included carriage wides, visits to Santa House, ice carving and a girl making a jump rope (depicted in this video). It was a bit chilly but there were hot drinks (and heaters) at various stations to create a bit of warmth.
In keeping with the traditional German holiday market, the Birmingham Winter Market featured artisans and craftsmen selling holiday decorations, housewares, candies, baked goods and other products. Live entertainment is enjoyed … (2 comments)

17th Annual Pumpkin Patch in Birmingham Michigan 2010 was hosted by the Junior League and held on the terrace of The Community House on Merrill St. and adjacent to the newly revamped Shain Park. Activities included moon bounces, healthy refreshments, fantastic crafts, face painting, cookie decorating, pumpkin bowling and other spooktacular games for children of all ages. The Community House Dance Academy performed and Baldwin Library had a non-scary story time and magician. Lots of cute costumes as seen in the video of the event. The Birmingham Farmers Market’s 2010 season came to a close with an end of Season Celebration. Children were invited to attend in their Halloween costumes and participate in activities like: Petting live farm animals, corn shelling, live entertainment, balloon creations and more. Also, for the first time ever hay rides were a part of the End of the Season Celebration at the Birmingham MI Farmer’s Market. To see the opening day for 2010 in May click here.

This is opening day of the Birmingham Michigan Farmer's market - May 2, 2010. Each year the Birmingham Michigan Farmer's Market opens for the summer at the Municipal Parking Lot #6 on North Old Woodward Ave. The Farmer's Market is every Sunday at 9AM - 2PM. Fresh produce, flowers, vegetables, baked good, organic foods, live entertainment and Kid Zone of kids' crafts.
This week the live entertainment was Paul Miles on the guitar. While there were more flowers than produce this early in the season, it's a great place to visit each week to get great fruit and vegetables. I … (1 comments)

Birmingham Michigan is a great place to live and a prime location is the neighborhood surrounding Booth Park. It is a four-acre park located as a gateway to the center of town coming from the north. The entrance to Booth Park is on Harmon Street near the corner of Old Woodward and is a destination point for parents and kids with the community-built “Castle” play station, labyrinth/tunnel and an Astroturf hill where you can see children (and adults) slide down on pieces of cardboard. My office is located where Old Woodward and New Woodward meet in Birmingham Michigan and I have had a birds-eye view of the parade of vintage cars all week. I did a little preview video in anticipation of the 15th Annual Woodward Dream Cruise and wasn’t about to miss the Big Event. With all the talk about two of the Big Three having gone through bankruptcy and all three pulling out of sponsorship, everyone was wondering about the turn out and success of an event that, in previous years has drawn up to 1.5 million people.

Metro Detroit and the world's largest one-day automotive event runs from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. along Woodward Avenue through nine host communities. This Saturday (August 15) is the Fifteenth Year for this Annual Event that takes place the third Saturday of August. It runs through nine host communities from Ferndale to Pontiac . . .
Here is a preview a few days before the event. Our office is located where Old Woodward and New Woodward meet and we always see people gathering days before and the cars revving up for a parade. There is so much more on the day of the event.

Working within a few blocks of Birmingham Michigan, I often attend the events in Shain Park. Days before the 46th annual Village Fair, I was downtown and saw the Ferris wheel going up. Being a favorite of mine growing up on the west side of Michigan, my attendance was almost guaranteed. I was going out of town the weekend of the Village Fair but it opened on a Thursday and it was my only chance. I worked until 8PM and it looked a bit like rain but I couldn’t resist stopping by. The Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center held their annual fine art festival in Shain Park over Mother’s Day. Called “Art Birmingham”, the juried art event featured about 180 artists from all over the U.S. in a variety of media. There were two great local events that weekend so after touring Royal Oak in Bloom, I drove the short distance to downtown Birmingham Michigan to capture the art and music of another great community in Oakland County Michigan.
