I have visited Rochester Michigan to view the beautiful lights that cover the storefronts several times during the holiday season but never for the actual event when they are officially turned on. Parking was my biggest challenge when I decided to attend this year’s official start to the Big, Bright Light Show 2010 during the Lagniappe celebration. The show attracts over one million visitors to Downtown Rochester and they all seemed to be there at once for excitement and count down.

Rochester Michigan, a great walk able community in Northern Oakland County, held it’s third annual Fire and Ice Festival January 29 & 30, 2010. “A Winter Zoobilee” was the theme for the many ice sculptures that lined the streets downtown. While it was a sunny day, the temperature was anything but. I took my camera and Flip video to capture all the fun and my first stop was the fire where they were roasting marshmallows – I definitely appreciated the “fire” part of Fire and Ice.

The following is a monthly market analysis for Rochester & Rochester Hills Michigan. It compares only residential homes sold in April 2009 with March 2009 to determine the # of homes sold for the month and the increase or decrease in median sold price. It shows all homes sold then private owned vs. Bank Owned/HUD. In the latter part of 2008, Realtors were required to categorize ownership status so figures are not accurate for bank owned in earlier months and not calculated. To exclude leases in data, minimum sale price used was $10,000.

The Big, Bright Light Show in Downtown Rochester is an annual event where the local businesses get together to create a spectacular holiday light display which covers Main Street from the South Bridge to University. The display consists of holiday LED lights every four inches and the storefronts are already preparing to shine brightly again. The display kicks off Monday, December 1 at 6PM. The Rochester Michigan 2008 Art & Apples Festival is held annually on the weekend following Labor Day in the 30-acre Rochester Park, located north of University in Downtown Rochester Michigan. This year the 43rd annual festival was held September 5th, 6th, & 7th and included over 250 fine art exhibitors, a variety of food and live entertainment. Definitely a family event, there was a free Kids Zone where they "Make and Take art projects and several interactive activities for kids and adults--including walking on stilts.
