social marketing: I can't....I won't....It will never work - 07/13/11 12:48 AM

Last week, I was slapped with reality.  You see, I thought that realtors were fantastic marketers who did everything they could to get a house to sell.  Last week I woke up.
Sure, I saw all of those articles downplaying the importance of QR Codes.  So many people telling me that QR Codes wouldn't work because people wouldn't get out of their car to scan one if it was raining or that those QR Codes could take them to nefarious sites on the internet.
Okay so internally, I wrote this off to the fact that not everybody is an early … (16 comments)

social marketing: Active Rain Revolution - Controlling Facebook Page Types - 04/04/11 07:33 AM
Let me start with background for those who use Facebook, but don't breathe it yet.  Within Facebook is the Open Graph (OG) Project.  Part of the OG Project is the ability to tell Facebook more about your page so tha they can maintain their search results better.  The long term of this is that Facebook is going to use Social to drive Search.
Most of you, I would guess 90% or greater, have limited or no idea what I am talking about and even less are actively promoting their pages to Facebook through OG Meta data.  If you aren't, now is … (0 comments)

social marketing: Don't Blink: Another Facebook Change - 02/28/11 01:00 AM
While you were sleeping and enjoying a weekend with your family, Facebook was at it again.  Another change that they didn't even bother giving a heads up to their developer network about, unless of course, a heads up is considered your code not working the way it did hours before.
Like and Share now the same thing
You used to have an option when you liked something to add a comment to the Like. From the developer's world, they called this feature the Share feature.  It was similar to a Like (yes I fought the urge to say Like a Like), … (5 comments)

social marketing: Facebook Search and Reach - A must read for people using Facebook to market. - 02/25/11 02:21 AM
You thought Facebook was cool?  Wait until you see this.
Last March, Facebook released their Open Graph project.  For those of you who don't follow Facebook developer things, you probably just noticed the world domination by that little Thumbs Up button on every site ever developed.  But now the promise of that little Like Button is becoming available.
A Little History Lesson - the Open Graph
Open Graph is the name for Facebook's search hierarchy.  It is a different mentality than Google's entirely.  Google says, tell me about your page through content and meta and I will see how many people think … (5 comments)

social marketing: Get your Facebook followers to tell their friends through Sponsored Stories - 02/23/11 06:16 AM
You have 300 friends so now what?
How do you extend the reach of your social networking AND monetize your efforts at the same time?

John Smith used you as his realtor 3 years ago and now follows you on Facebook.
Mary Smith is John's sister-in-law so she and John are Facebook friends.
You would … (4 comments)
