goals: The Debt Ceiling Crisis and the Real Estate Market: Do You See the Parallel? - 08/03/11 08:19 PM

For weeks, the question on nearly everyone's mind has been, “Will the U.S. Government default on its loans?” The situation created a lot of worry and a lot of fear in a lot of peoples' minds. A primary concern in our field was the impact on the already fragile real estate market. As foreclosures continue, a lot of us were left wondering whether a debt decision delay would worsen the market.
Well, the House passed a $2.4 trillion debt-ceiling increase Monday night, by a vote of 269-161. That final tally highlighted deep dissatisfaction among the rank-and-file members of both parties. … (14 comments)

goals: Lights, Camera, Action! - 12/23/09 08:58 AM
To make a movie or television show you need a producer, a director, actors, and a script. But put those four elements together and you still have just people and words on a page. Without ACTION, the best script and actors in the business will never make it to the Oscars or Emmys.
It's the same with your business. You've set your goals for next year – an essential first step. You've written out your plan for how you will achieve those goals – that's your roadmap to success. But until you actually DO something, actually put your plan into … (3 comments)

goals: Planning to Succeed? - 12/11/09 02:42 PM
You have a goal…great! But do you know how you'll reach that goal? If you get in your car to drive somewhere that you've never been before, what's the chance you'll get there without a map or directions or a GPS? Or if you go online to buy a pair of running shoes for your sister but you don't know what brand or size she wears, what's the chance that those shoes will have to be returned?
You get the idea – if you don't plan first, you probably will have trouble achieving even the simplest of goals. But when … (7 comments)

goals: What's Holding You Back? - 07/28/09 11:23 AM
"If you have a goal in life that takes a lot of energy, that requires a lot of work, that incurs a great deal of interest and that is a challenge to you, you will always look forward to waking up to see what the new day brings." - Susan Polis Schultz
Not long ago I checked off one of my lifetime goals – to see a Space Shuttle launch. I'd dreamed about it for a long time. It took a lot of scrambling and rearranging of my schedule and my husband's for us to be able to make the … (4 comments)

goals: Once In a Lifetime! - 07/21/09 01:12 PM
It was one of those "things to see and do in our lifetime" goals – to see a Space Shuttle launch in person.
I am so glad we made the decision to go to Florida to see the launch of Endeavor. It was all at the very last minute – my husband, Matthew, and I had just three days to make air reservations (we got the last two seats and were even upgraded to first class!), we had to clear both of our schedules which were very full, and then had to reschedule air travel and re-clear our schedules again when the launch was … (25 comments)

goals: Catching Up with Yourself - 06/29/09 02:38 PM

It's time for that appointment you made with yourself – that time when you are going to look at how you did during the first half of the year, and figure out what you can do to make the second half better.
First, hold your calls and step away from the e-mail. This is protected time for you and your business. Next, pull out that file you created – the one with your financial information and a copy of your plan for the year – and start reviewing it. Compare how you did to your plan:
Are you on track … (7 comments)

goals: It's Mid-year…Are You Mid-way to Your Yearly Goals? - 06/18/09 07:57 PM
I can hear you because I say it too; "Where did the year go? How did it get to be almost the end of June??"
But it IS mid-year, and time to focus on where we are and where we are going with the intention of closing that gap. No matter if you are on track or not, we still have six more months in 2009, and anything can happen. Let’s use this time to plan to win!
So much goes on each day that can distract us from what is really important. We all know this, but it still happens. We take … (13 comments)

goals: Work ON, Not IN Your Business - 05/15/09 07:20 PM
Are you busy? Everyone’s busy! Ask anyone and they’ll tell you how busy they are. But how many people are seeing real results?
As a real estate agent, it is important to realize that you are not just a sales person - you are first and foremost an entrepreneur. That means you are a business owner with all sorts or responsibilities, and those duties can sometimes seem to overwhelm you. Most of all, you are a leader who has the vision that propels you, your team, and your business forward.
It’s easy to feel buried by the myriad activities that demand … (4 comments)

goals: How Are You Doing So Far? - 03/31/09 08:38 PM
Check the calendar; we're already three months in to the year. How are you doing with your plans and goals for 2009? If you made resolutions at the end of 2008, have you been able to keep them? If you’re like most people, those easier goals are probably either accomplished or in reach. The ones that were more like wishes, well, they probably haven't happened yet. In other words, you are quite normal!
But is that enough? If part of your plan for 2009 is to not just to survive but to actually thrive and grow your business, then take a … (8 comments)

goals: Get Back in the Game - 02/04/09 12:32 PM

It's about this time each year that some people start slipping away from the goals they made. The focus has become fuzzy, and other things have come along to distract them from visualizing their goals clearly. The gym where they signed up and vowed to go work out five days a week? Well, they've been busy, the weather's been bad, and they haven't been there in a while. The Realtor who was going to devote a portion of every day to prospecting? Well, life's been crazy lately and it hasn't worked out that way, but really, they plan to … (4 comments)

goals: It's Just a Game - 01/16/09 09:39 AM

That's what I say to myself and others – it's just a game. These days there are two games in my life, and I'm learning from – and with – both of them.
It started with 2009. First, I reminded myself that 2008 is over, done, gone, move on, don't drag it into the new year. We have a fresh opportunity with 2009 to make of it what we want. I keep remembering Henry Ford's famous quote:  "If you think you can do a thing, or think you can't do a thing, you're right."
So when I pick up a … (1 comments)

goals: Victim or Victor? The Choice is Up to You - 10/08/08 12:57 PM

Is there anyone who likes being around a "Victim?" It's certainly not an appealing personality trait. And yet, in a down-turning market, you'd think that Victim was the name of a hot new perfume; everywhere you turn, you get a whiff of it.
You know the clues: the "poor me" stories, the blaming, the counting and recounting of bad things that have happened to the speaker, the anticipation of problems to come. And you know the effect it has on listeners: the glazed eyes, the wandering mind, the rising desire to take the speaker by the shoulders and give him … (8 comments)

goals: Where Are Those #@*! Keys? - 09/21/08 04:11 PM
Putting Your Energy Where it Counts
Damn! You've lost your car keys. You know they were here someplace. You gobble down your breakfast as you tear the place apart, find that uncashed check and the dog's lost collar, and snap at the next person who calls you. It’s not their fault you lost your keys. But once you've apologized and are trying to have a productive conversation with them, your mind is still poking around in the bottom of your purse, your briefcase, or underneath the driver's seat for those  keys. You're distracted. You have to ask the caller to repeat … (7 comments)
