planning: Are YOU Tapping the Shift to Rentals? - 08/09/11 06:39 PM
It's a given – dealing with rental properties can provide income and future clients for savvy, open-minded agents. Inman News ran an interesting article recently, highlighting just this point. Remember, it's all a matter of how you think – we're in a make-it-or-break-it economy, and if you're smart, you're scrambling to not only use but create best practices to put yourself at the head of the pack. Rentals have BIG potential as a new money-maker for real estate professionals. By 2015, the nation's home ownership is projected to drop from about 66% today, to 64% - the same rate as in

planning: A New Year! How's your game? - 01/04/11 10:17 PM
There's no way to avoid the resolution game this time of year. Everywhere you turn, someone is telling you to shape up your business, your body, and your mind. It's very human to want to make the new year better than the old year. But is another round of resolutions the answer? Let's start by going back…to January 2010. Did you make resolutions for the new year? Did you KEEP all those resolutions? Ah, well…. Fast forward to today, January 2011. Have you made resolutions for this new year? And how many of them are the SAME THINGS as

planning: The Top 10 Things To Do to Keep You From Getting Into a Slump - 05/19/10 10:27 AM
Successful agents take action regularly to build future business. They nurture their spheres of influence – especially that 20% that gives them 80% of their referrals. They use a coordinated marketing plan that consistently and repetitively connects with their target markets. They continue to plant seeds for future business, and they have systems set up to stay on track with this effortlessly. When there are shifts in the market, a wise agent knows that calls for a change in strategy. In spite of everything, though, sometimes a slump or slow down appears. When that happens, it's no time to panic –

planning: The Power of One Scary Word: Change - 03/24/10 11:41 AM
Is there anyone who honestly likes change? We know it is inevitable, but that doesn't mean we like it. Humans are very good at getting comfortable with situations and routines that are familiar, so for many of us the idea of changing even something we don't like is downright scary. But if you think about it, changing how we do things and even what we do is how we grow and move toward a future that is going to arrive whether we like it or not. Children grow out of their jeans and shoes long before they wear them out.

planning: Lights, Camera, Action! - 12/23/09 08:58 AM
To make a movie or television show you need a producer, a director, actors, and a script. But put those four elements together and you still have just people and words on a page. Without ACTION, the best script and actors in the business will never make it to the Oscars or Emmys. It's the same with your business. You've set your goals for next year – an essential first step. You've written out your plan for how you will achieve those goals – that's your roadmap to success. But until you actually DO something, actually put your plan into

planning: Planning to Succeed? - 12/11/09 02:42 PM
You have a goal…great! But do you know how you'll reach that goal? If you get in your car to drive somewhere that you've never been before, what's the chance you'll get there without a map or directions or a GPS? Or if you go online to buy a pair of running shoes for your sister but you don't know what brand or size she wears, what's the chance that those shoes will have to be returned? You get the idea – if you don't plan first, you probably will have trouble achieving even the simplest of goals. But when

planning: Catching Up with Yourself - 06/29/09 02:38 PM
It's time for that appointment you made with yourself – that time when you are going to look at how you did during the first half of the year, and figure out what you can do to make the second half better. First, hold your calls and step away from the e-mail. This is protected time for you and your business. Next, pull out that file you created – the one with your financial information and a copy of your plan for the year – and start reviewing it. Compare how you did to your plan: Are you on track

planning: It's Mid-year…Are You Mid-way to Your Yearly Goals? - 06/18/09 07:57 PM
I can hear you because I say it too; "Where did the year go? How did it get to be almost the end of June??" But it IS mid-year, and time to focus on where we are and where we are going with the intention of closing that gap. No matter if you are on track or not, we still have six more months in 2009, and anything can happen. Let’s use this time to plan to win! So much goes on each day that can distract us from what is really important. We all know this, but it still happens. We take

planning: Work ON, Not IN Your Business - 05/15/09 07:20 PM
Are you busy? Everyone’s busy! Ask anyone and they’ll tell you how busy they are. But how many people are seeing real results? As a real estate agent, it is important to realize that you are not just a sales person - you are first and foremost an entrepreneur. That means you are a business owner with all sorts or responsibilities, and those duties can sometimes seem to overwhelm you. Most of all, you are a leader who has the vision that propels you, your team, and your business forward. It’s easy to feel buried by the myriad activities that demand
