buying in todays economy: Wedded Bliss - 04/03/09 09:29 PM
By Coco Clayman-Cook Newlyweds have a great deal to contend with in this day and age. With both partners usually working who wants to take time to trim hedges or contract a gardener? There are certain times in life when we shouldn't have to deal with the mundane day to day mumbo jumbo, and certainly one of those times is when you are a newly wed. Does that mean that newlyweds should miss out on all the perks of home ownership? Certainly not! One ideal solution is vertical living. Buying a condominium affords the bride and groom a lifestyle free of

buying in todays economy: The Condo Consciousness - 01/07/09 11:26 PM
By Coco Clayman-Cook Life is a series of choices. We choose to focus on what is important to us and to relinquish that which is less important. Part of the Condo Consciousness is placing focus on living comfortably without unnecessary distractions. I love being surrounded by healthy living plants and I appreciate daily time in a quiet garden filled with well manicured and pampered vegetation. I could own a home and spend countless hours and untold funds on creating just such and environment; instead I live in a luxury condo with a beautiful garden. I have spectacular orchids throughout my home

buying in todays economy: Canadian Conference Predicts Up Turn in 2010 - 12/20/08 02:16 PM
By Coco Clayman-Cook Recently, at an annual conference on Real Estate issues for Toronto homeowners Coldwell Banker President Gary Hockey predicted a rocky 2009 with a market up swing in 2010. Analysts at the conference expressed concern about the Condominium market's reaction to current real estate issues. With several large luxury condominiums in development during economically turbulent times, the reality is that consumer's fears are growing. Many are concerned that their investment in future projects will be in jeopardy. The recent stall in Vancouver's much lauded Ritz-Carlton Hotel has raised concerns about other high end projects. Despite concerns the conference confirmed that

buying in todays economy: The Houston Condo Marketco - 12/20/08 10:42 AM
By Coco Clayman-Cook The condo market in Houston has taken several hits recently. Three new luxury condominium complexes have hit major snags. One of them, the ultra luxury Turnberry Tower has simply been cancelled. One condo project has been delayed and a third has been suspended indefinitely. The Houston market in general has survived the current economic crisis better than most cities, but this recent turn of events may be a signal of more to come. Foreclosures have risen to an all time high and unemployment is on the rise in this southern city. Most economists are blaming the credit crisis

buying in todays economy: A River in Egypt - 12/16/08 09:39 AM
by Coco Clayman-Cook Denial is a powerful thing. While I am a huge fan of positive thinking there is also a need to be realistic. Zillow.com, a website specializing in real estate news, recently conducted a survey among home owners. Almost half of the home owners surveyed believed that their home value had either remained the same or had increased in the last year. The reality is that 74% of the homes in United States have decreased in the last year. Despite the fact the news bombards the public with daily reports of dropping market values, it seems that many people

buying in todays economy: Solutions - 12/11/08 11:44 AM
By Coco Clayman-Cook The current economy has created some "interesting" challenges for a large portion of the population. More and more clients are coming to my office seeking solutions for their challenges and amazingly buying a condominium has been a perfect answer for almost everyone's issues. One couple found that they needed to downsize their financial life. Rather than loose their home to foreclosure they sold their home and purchased a condominium. They managed to save their credit and still maintain their status as home owners. Another client wanted to minimize his carbon foot print, and the hefty gas bills he

buying in todays economy: Million Dollar Listing - 12/04/08 07:54 AM
By Coco Clayman-Cook Recently the New York Times ran an article about the hit Bravo show Million Dollar Listing. In the article it suggested that the market has changed so much that the first season of the show, which was only filmed three years ago is like a "time capsule" of a market that used to be and is no more. As a realtor who appeared on the second season of Million Dollar Listing (the episode dealing with luxury condominiums) I find the New York time's analogy slightly dramatic. They even suggest the show should be renamed Million Dollar Foreclosure. While

buying in todays economy: The Fall Season in Los Angeles - 10/16/08 09:36 AM
By Coco Clayman Cook I love this time of year in Los Angeles. The temperatures are lovely and temperate and the sunsets from my luxury condo balcony are awe inspiring. The produce at the Beverly Hills Farmer's Market is tremendous and colorful. From the wide variety of succulent heirloom tomatoes to the rainbow of peppers, squashes and pumpkins the fare is splendid, fresh and first rate. Culturally, Los Angeles thrives in the fall. For live theatre Wicked remains at ThePantages Theatre through the first of the year and Spring Awakening is preparing to open at The Ahmanson Theatre. For Art lovers

buying in todays economy: The Market Update - 10/16/08 09:29 AM
By Coco Clayman Cook With a signed bailout and the election only days away it seems almost certain that things are about to change, the real question is, "How?" And while I am interested in the entire market I will confess to being infinitely more interested in the market here in Los Angeles. In the luxury condo market we have seen definite changes in the last 2 years, but nothing as drastic as the rest of the country. In fact luxury condominiums actually enjoyed a surge in sales over the summer. More and more people are realizing that in this economy
