tallahassee: Tallahassee, FL Market report Sep 7, 2011 - 09/07/11 04:34 PM
Tallahassee, like most of FL, has been impacted by the poor US economy, but not hurt as much as south FL.  As the line shows on the chart below, sales have been steadily decreasing since 2005, although the chart also indicates that sales may have started to level off.

The bars in the chart above show the average sale price in Tallahassee since 2003. By the end of last year, values had fallen to 2004 prices, with the average sale price in Tallahassee at $180K.  Prices are still falling and the current average sale price is $170K.

tallahassee: Are You Thinking of Living in Tallahassee? - 09/01/11 02:47 PM
A conversation with Colleen McConnell, Advanced Realty Group, Tallahassee, Fl
Tallahassee is a multifaceted community rich in history, natural beauty, culture and arts, advanced education, and ongoing scientific pursuits.
It’s the state capitol & home of the FL legislature, nine universities and colleges, historic landmarks, numerous museums, parks, and natural wonders, yet it maintains a small town atmosphere.
It’s not your typical Florida city – there are few palm trees and the beach is 45 minutes away,  but its rolling hills and live oak trees draped with Spanish moss give it a charm all its own … it’s a great place … (3 comments)

tallahassee: Red light camera program in Tallahassee is a Winner - 06/09/11 09:47 PM
Eleven months ago, the City of Tallahassee implemented  a  Red Light Safety Camera program intended to cut down on the number of motorists who run red lights.  According to the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety, running red lights is the leading cause of urban crashes.  Tallahassee knew it had a problem since at a single intersection, they found more than 450 red light violations in a sixteen hour period.  To solve this problem, the city has installed 17 red light cameras and more may be coming.  The location of  the cameras is posted on the city's website to give residents fair … (4 comments)

tallahassee: "Tallahassee: It's a great place to live, but you wouldn't want to visit" - 06/03/11 11:12 AM
The title is my favorite of the city mottos that were submitted recently by call-in listeners to the Tallahassee Morning Radio Show.  Even though it's the capital of FL, Tallahassee doesn't have any beaches, few palm trees, and is generally not considered a tourist attraction. There are things to entertain and amuse, but you have to look hard to find them. The people are very friendly and the pace is slow - it grows on you, but you may not fall in love at first sight.
Some other interesting submissions for the City of Tallahassee motto were:"Tallahassee, Nice & Classy""Tallahassee, Your … (0 comments)

tallahassee: Top 5 reasons to Forget Buying a Short Sale - 02/22/11 06:42 AM
Most buyers who search out short sales are looking for a bargain.  Usually, you'll be able to find a house that meets your most important requirements OR is an awesome deal, but probably not both.
Getting a good price for whatever house you buy is always important; buying a house primarily because it's a "steal" will often prove disappointing when it's time to live there if you don't like the location, layout, amenities (or lack thereof), etc.
Here are five reasons to forget a short sale:1.  You have a short, definite timeframe for moving2.  The house is a great price, but … (5 comments)

tallahassee: Poverty ... one way to help ... The Shelter in Tallahassee, FL - 10/15/08 12:57 PM
Poverty sucks. And there are children, women, and men in need of shelter, food, or other life necessities in every city and town in our country. You won't have to look too hard to find them. It will give you the most wonderful feeling if you will take some action to help others who are in desperate need.
The following article was submitted by Jacob Reiter, AmeriCorps VISTA*(Volunteer in Service to America). Jacob is Co-Director of Tallahassee Homeless Speakers Bureau.
It's uncomfortable to think about, but homelessness is only a few steps away for any of us.  Many rely on facilities … (0 comments)
