A few Realtors have commented recently that they always refer family and friends to a different agent because they don’t want to risk the relationship. I find that surprising when the Real Estate business is all about maintaining good relationships.
Furthermore, I don’t know any Realtor who knows more or would take better care of my family and friends than I would. My family and friends already know that I’ll put their needs first and tell them the truth; I have to work harder for new customers to realize that this is the way I operate.

I took a new listing yesterday and the owner was an investor from out of town who owned several properties in Tallahassee. He had started out many years ago as a Realtor and told me that every day in his first year he made 125 calls in the morning and then hit the streets to knock on doors in the afternoon. He held open houses every Sat and Sun and followed up every lead religiously. He was so successful that he was soon able to open his own office and eventually turn to investing full time.

In a social situation, there are certain topics that aren't usually discussed freely and can cause discomfort if they come up. Many of us cringed in the early days of Barbara Walters, who would ask celebrities very personal questions that got to the heart of whatever scandal was current. This sort of prying just seemed rude and obnoxious and didn't appear to provide a service to the person being questioned.
