Goofy & Playful, This Guy Will Make You Smile... Meet Rokie!

If you're new to our blog, we write about a local shelter dog each week and have for over a year now. Of the 60+ dogs we've featured, all but one have been adopted. Let's keep that up! As mom to four rescued shelter dogs, I urge you to adopt a shelter dog, don't buy from a breeder. The Hukari Animal Shelter currently has 17 dogs, the most I've seen in the 2+ years I've been involved with them. If Rokie doesn't strike a chord with you, there's … (5 comments)

School's Out! Now What To Do With Those Kids, Hood River?

It's time to find something to keep those kids busy now that they're out of school. Hood River and the Columbia River Gorge is a kids' (and adult's) playground with almost unlimited opportunities. The problem's going to be narrowing all those choices down!
One of our family's favorite source of entertainment is the Community Ed. dept of the Hood River County School District. They offer numerous camps, classes and sports. Whether your kids want to learn to windsurf, take guitar lessons, play tennis, go hiking, make crafts, learn … (0 comments)

Friday's Foto - Holy Cow!

Okay, so maybe he's not so "holy", but he was pretty darned friendly coming right up to the fence to have his picture taken. We passed this guy on the way to pick up one of my son's friends to come over to play. I love living in the country (in the mountains), where we pass both livestock and wildlife all the time.

Wordless Wednesday - Duck!

I was photographing a new client's home, the backyard specifically, when I realized this guy, perched under a bush, wasn't just a decoration... he's real. I realized this when he turned his head when I got too close, but otherwise, he stayed right where he was. There's another smaller duck behind him, too.

Confident & Friendly, This Guy Struts His Stuff... Meet Pepe!

Pepe, or Mr. Le Pew as his nickname goes, is a super guy who is going to make someone a fun companion. This guy is about a year old and weighs in at a wee five pounds, but he more than makes up for his small stature with personality. Pepe is confident and well behaved. He's playful, snuggly and loves to go for walks. He even gets along well with other dogs and seems to love everyone he meets. Pepe is a long-haired chihuahua (how gorgeous is he!?), is … (5 comments)

Silent Saturday - Sailing The Columbia River Gorge

The temperature, surprisingly, hit 90 degrees today so we headed to the river for the first time of the summer. Cooling off felt great and the scenery wasn't bad either. I never get tired of watching the sailboats, windsurfers and kiteboarders, all against the stunning back drop of the Cascade mountains.

Modern Moms… Is Anyone Else Exhausted?

So I’m sitting here in my living room, blogging away, working on SEO for our company’s website. I just finished editing photos of a client’s house and next up is invoicing. Meanwhile, I have a load of laundry in the washer, another in the dryer and lasagna in the oven for dinner. The sprinklers are on and I have to go move them in 10 minutes. Both our sons (11 and 13) have friends over, but luckily Xbox is keeping them relatively quiet. For the moment. I wish I could say … (3 comments)

Friday's Foto - Growing Up, Moving On

Today our youngest son, Ben, graduated the 5th grade (yes, they have a ceremony for that now days) and will be moving on to middle school next year. I know many of you have had even bigger milestones with your children/relatives (hs graduation, marriages, grand children etc), but this is a big one for us. We just can't imagine where the time has gone. This is Ben on his first day of kindergarten and his last day of 5th grade (this morning).

I love the idea of this and can't wait to take our kids! What a great way to celebrate school getting out (June 15th) and the start of summer.
Bring the whole family and "Spring into Summer" this Saturday, June 16th, 1 to 4 p.m. at the Children's Park at 9th and Eugene Street in Hood River. It's FREE and the weather forecast calls for mostly sunny skies so it should be a great event!

Speechless Sunday - Dance Like No One Is Watching - 06/10/12 08:06 PM

Speechless Sunday - Dance Like No One Is Watching

Our family was in Eugene, Oregon this weekend for our neice's high school graduation. We were told you haven't been to Eugene until you've been to Saturday Market, which is the quintessential "hippy" gathering place in town. What an experience. I watched this young lady dancing and hula hooping and I thought of this quote, which I've always loved and find inspiring:
Dance like no one is watching, Love like you'll never be hurt, Sing like no one is listening, Live like it's heaven on earth.  -William Purkey

Such a Shy, Sweet Thing... Meet Chickadee! - 06/10/12 07:53 PM

Such a Shy, Sweet Thing... Meet Chickadee!

This sweet girl is a little bashful and so very gentle, she needs a gentle owner who would love to have a lap dog and constant companion. Chickadee is a chihuahua mix who is about six months old. She's quite the girly-girl, who likes to stay neat and clean and she just loves pink. She takes things slow in the beginning, but warms up quickly then really lets her puppy side shine through. Chickadee would be happiest in a home without small children as they're just too active and loud for her

Speechless Sunday - Columbia Gorge's Kiteboarding Season Well Underway - 06/03/12 07:41 PM

Speechless Sunday - Columbia Gorge's Kiteboarding Season Well Underway

In case you don't know, the Columbia River Gorge and Hood River specifically is nationally known in kiteboarding circles. And in case you don't know, kiteboarding is a sport where the rider stands on a small surfboard then holds onto a kite, similar to a parasail, and uses the wind to ride the water. Because of its geological form, the Columbia Gorge channels wind that's perfect for the sport so enthusiasts flock to the area from May to October. The last few days we've seen lots of boarders on the … (10 comments)

A Gentle Soul, Longing For A Home... Meet Fuji! - 06/03/12 08:17 AM

A Gentle Soul, Longing For A Home... Meet Fuji!

If you're new to my blog, each week I highlight a local shelter dog, needing a home. Of the almost 60 dogs I've written about every single one has found a home with the exception of sweet Fuji. I've blogged about him twice before, in fact. I think the problem is that he's a little old, shy and has some minor health issues. But he still deserves a home where he'll be loved forever.
Fuji is a chow chow mix, about 10 years old and about as sweet as they … (9 comments)

Silent Saturday - See Hot Chicks Here!

This local sign made me chuckle when I first saw it. I didn't know we had that kind of establishment here in Hood River. But then you'll notice that above the "Hot Chicks" you see the shop's name, Little Bit Ranch Supply. They're talking actual chicks here. Little Bit Ranch Supply is a great place to pick up that urgently needed ranch product, located at 2727 Cascade, Hood River.

Friday's Foto - Attack Of The Giant Moth

This lovely visitor was on our front porch this morning. I've never seen a moth this large before (in person)... although the photo doesn't show it as well as I'd like, it's probably close to five inches wide with it's wings fully extended. I love the markings on this guy, especially the "eyes" near the wings' tips.
