Wordless Wednesday - New Hood River Wildfire
A new wildfire started just outside Hood River last night, along Highway 84 and has grown to over 50 acres. The fire is on very steep terrain making an air assault necessary. Wednesday afternoon, all outdoor school sports were cancelled due to poor air quality throughout the entire Hood River Valley. Besides thick smoke which seems stuck in the valley, ash is floating through the air. My asthma is certainly not enjoying the smoke as I wheeze my way through the afternoon. I took this photo from one of our new listings, just off Highway 35, about five miles south of Hood River. It was pretty early and I was shooting into the sun so it's a little dark, but I still love the iconic American scene. The mountains behind the barn almost disappear in the smoke from the Husum, WA wildfire still burning across the river.

Yesterday, our 11 year old, Ben, played for Hood River in The Dalles, Oregon in his football jamboree, the official kick-off of the 2012 football season. Youth tackle football is vastly popular in the Columbia River Gorge, starting in the 3rd grade. It's such a great community experience.
