I took this photo on Friday in the town of Parkdale, Oregon. These are the Parkdale railroad tracks, just next to the Parkdale Train Station, which are mainly used for scenic train trips from the town of Hood River. It was such a crisp, autumn day, unseasonably warm and sunny.

Wordless Wednesday - The Road Home This is the road to our house in Parkdale, Oregon (10 miles south of Hood River) and this is our son, Sam walking with our dog, Tucker. After a longer and colder than usual spring, the leaves are finally coming out and we finally see blue sky. At least for now. It's supposed to rain again tomorrow.

Youth Basketball in the Columbia Gorge Yesterday brought the first game in youth basketball in the Columbia Gorge. Our son, Ben, and his Parkdale team won their game with a score of 22 to 6. The team has just six players, which meant the kids played most of the game. We were so proud of them. Kids we hadn't seen play yet impressed us and our own son pulled off some impressive plays. He also proved to be a great on defense, drawing on his obvious football skills maybe a bit too much. Games are every Saturday, through mid-March. The team practices two … (0 comments)

Hood River County Mobile Health Unit Our sixth-grade son started youth wrestling last week and we found out he needed to have a sports physical before proceeding. One of his coaches gave him the schedule for the Mobile Health Unit, where he could get the sports physical for free. Wow. Can't beat that. Winter is still going strong, but Spring (Training) is just around the corner. Seattle Mariner pitchers and cathers arrive in Peoria, Arizona on February 13th, less than a month away. Position players arrive on February 18th.

There are few things more exciting to a couple kids than that phone call that came at 5:30 a.m., announcing that today was going to be a snow day. The tv news confirmed it: The Hood River County School District was officially closed for the day following a night of snow which was then turning into freezing rain. Suddenly, thoughts of homework, gym clothes and meetings changed to plans of sledding, playing video games and, yes, napping. Youth league basketball started last week in the Columbia River Gorge. Our son plays for the Parkdale, third and fourth grade team, practicing twice a week, then with games beginning at the end of January. We're amazed at how much the boys grow through the season as they learn the game better and get in better condition. We love all the friends we've made by attending practices and games.
