What's Happening in Real Estate in Worthington? No, that sounds too 1970's...
The News about Worthington real estate?
How about Last Week in Worthington? Looking in the rear view mirror at the week in real estate or the data that was reported... anyway.

Surely they jest a $25 fee per real estate sign? - 03/24/09 04:20 PM
Not $25 for the sign...
A $25 dollar fee for a permit to post a temporary "for Sale"  sign on the owners property.  A $25 dollar fee payable to the municipality, the town of Shirley Massachusetts to have the right to post the "for sale"  sign. Are they saying $25 to post a sign for an open house too?  Sounds as if that's what the local real estate community is concerned with.  The story in The Boston Globe  "Realtors object to fees for signs"  By Julie Masis Globe Correspondent ran on March 22, 2009 says:

The Ohio Historical Marker for St. John's Church in Worthington just east of the Village Green describes the historic church as "Saint John's Church of  Worthington and Parts Adjacent."

Of course in 1803  "Parts Adjacent"  to the Village of Worthington would have been even closer in than the "Parts Adjacent"  to the City of Worthington now.    I may start referring to the Worthington area as "Parts Adjacent."

This is a Re-blog of a story about the long ago sale of a historic home in Roanoke Virginia written by Barbara Delaney, an associate broker in Virginia.  The house pictured is not for sale.
If you buy a historic home (or any other home) in Central Ohio, the contract spells out what is a fixture and what is personal property.  The contract we use also now deals with anything on the premises that is rented, you know like a security system or a water softener.
Old houses like those in Old Worthington often have great stories.

Celebrating St. Patrick's Day in Central Ohio - 03/09/09 01:41 PM

Dublin Ohio takes the first crack at St. Patrick's Day, holding their celebration on the Saturday before St. Patrick's Day.  If Irish is an attitude, Dublin does it well

Reblogging-Why Not Comment On The Original Post? - 03/09/09 11:15 AM

This is a test... this is only a test. Comment on Midori's blog.
DO NOT Comment here.
Lately I usually only Re-Blog content that is aimed at consumers, so I am really not expecting other ActiveRain members to comment.  They do.  If I Re-Blog content from an out of town lender, real estate agent, home inspector or stager... I don't want to get bossy with the reader I am trying to connect with via the content and tell them they need to go comment on a blog for a Long Island New York home inspector, a Hudson Ohio … (4 comments)

If Irish is an attitude, Dublin does it well - 03/09/09 10:51 AM
If Irish is an atitude Dublin Ohio does it well.
A reminder via Twitter of the St. Patrick's Day and  festivities.  Much (but not all )  is free fun.  The celebration includes a pancake breakfast, a race, story telling, Irish music and of course the St. Patrick;s Day Parade.

The Gallery Hop - 03/09/09 07:27 AM

We went to the Gallery Hop in the Short North on Saturday night.  How could we not go? It was over 70 degrees during the afternoon.
The official website of the Short North Arts District is a handy site.
People were lined up for ice cream at Jeni's as you can see in the picture... really my phone's camera does NOT do this justice.
It has been about 15 months since I have been to the Gallery Hop.  The Gallery Hop is always the first Saturday of each month.  I used to go to the Galery Hop a lot.

Why is aluminum wiring a problem? - 03/08/09 10:38 AM

This is a Re-Blog of information from Ray Wilson a home inspector in New York... obvioulsy about aluminum wiring. Ray wrote:
"Pigtailing was the main way to alleviate aluminum wiring problems, but many electricians in my area no longer do this. They recommend the wiring be replaced. So, it is their call - follow their advice. - Ray"
We do have lots of developments in Central Ohio built in the 1965 to 1975 window.
Makes me wonder if electricians in the Columbus area do "pigtailing."

Columbus in Top 10 Manliest Cities in US - 03/07/09 05:07 AM
Columbus is the Seventh Manliest City in the country according to an article in the Columbus Dispatch.
Cincinnati is number four... hmmmm wonder why, they don't have the Arnold Classic.  The Arnold Classis is in Columbus this weekend, downtown in the Arena Disctrict.
Rounding out the top 10 is Toledo.  Dayton and Cleveland are in the top 20.
Pro-sports teams, trips to hardware stores, monster truck rallies boost a cities manliness.
The ranking is from Combos Snacks? Combos sponsored the ranking for Sperling's BestPlaces but I can't see the Manliest Cities on the Sperlings BestPlaces site.

"Waterfall" Move's Code Name for ActiveRain - 03/06/09 05:47 AM

Or "Waterfall" Move's Code Name for ActiveRain, the rest of the story. Thanks to Paul Harvey for that wonderful phrase, "the rest of the story"  may he rest in peace. Of course this is an Inman Article so it will disappear in a few days.  Or after today? Unless you are an Inman subscriber... Read it NOW.
Why did Move spurn ActiveRain  According to the article by Matt Carter why Move did not buy ActiveRain:
"Move wanted to find a way to ensure ActiveRain's Realtor members would write original content of interest to consumers -- not just other Realtors."

Columbus do you know where you live? - 03/06/09 04:04 AM
How do you know where you live?
Your address?
The school district you are in?
Where the auditor says the house is...  I guess you would call that the legal description....
Something else....

I know where I live based on | BuzzDash polls It's sure easier when you meet someone locally to say I live in Worthington, rather than I live in the City of Columbus but the  Worthington School District... or I live in the City of Columbus but in the Westerville School District and my mailing address is...

Columbus "business establishment where meals or refreshments may be purchased" Week - 03/05/09 05:12 PM
Catchy?  The "business establishment where meals or refreshments may be purchased" is Merriam-Websters Dictionaries definition of restaurant.    It is a bit wordy.  What about Columbus Restaurant "period of seven successive days"  That kinda sorta comes from Dictionary.com
A dispute over the rights to call next week  "Restaurant Week" or "Columbus Restaurant Week" seems darn silly.... in the face of what's going on in the economy.  A local magazine registered the right to the term "Columbus Restaurant Week. "  The Other Paper has the story, written by Kitty McConnell, Wrangling over Restaurant Week  says:

Crosswoods Coming Soon - 03/05/09 09:51 AM

Coming soon
Or coming back?
Chutnys, an Indian restautant in the Crosswoods area of Columbus opened and closed very quickly. I think.   I swear I read in one of the papers that Chutnys opened.  As I recall it said the restaurant was able to come right in because the previous Indian Restaurant in that location, the equipment was still there.   I can not find the article though.  Searching I just find a lot of recipes for different chutnys.

ActiveRain is so yesterday - 03/04/09 01:21 PM
I read it on Twitter just a few minutes ago....
Or that "the door for blogging has closed on ActiveRain."
Tina Merritt  is watching a webinar from real estate trainer Amy Chorew (an ActiveRain member)
@tinainvirginia tweetted "per @amychorew - the door for blogging on activeRain has closed - many other options out there."

A number of people tweeted why???
@ginakay that's what @amychorew said since they are now charging for outside blogs.

@tineinvirginia tweeted another quote: " per@amychorew - propopoly is the new into (intro?) to blogging platform for RE"

Riverlea is pronounced River - lee - 03/04/09 11:06 AM
Usually.
Most people pronounce Riverlea, River-lee but occasionally you hear someone pronounce it "River-lee -a."   I went to a function on the Worthington Green once and a Riverlea resident and dignitary at the event pronounced his village's name as River-lee-a.
Riverlea is a village in Central Ohio... Riverlea is an enclave....  I think.  I learned the word enclave from Wikipedia, an enclave is surrounded by another city.  Riverlea is surrounded on three sides by the City of Worthington... the west side is on the Olentangy River.  The village's website says Riverlea is a non- charter village.
Their website gives these … (0 comments)

Columbus or Gahumbusville - 03/04/09 05:40 AM
Gahumbusville is in Franklin County.

Gahumbusville is just south of 161.
Gahumbusville is in the 43230 ZIP code.  Not all of the 43230 ZIP is Gahumbusville, the biggest chunk is Gahanna.
Gahumbusville is a very pretty area.  Blendon Woods is in the Gahumbusville area... or wait maybe Blendon Woods in Gahumbusany?
If you have a  Gahanna mailing address and live in the city of Columbus in the Westerville school district you live in  Gahumbusville.
I asked a man recently if he was the John Doe* in Bexley, Delaware, Groveport, Reynoldsburg, or Westerville.

Celebrity says.... - 03/03/09 06:53 AM

Celebrity says Realtors® need new shoes..
Or good shoes...
I guess good shoes are not necessarily NEW shoes ...
A quote from columnist Alison Rogers in Inman News is  "a Realtor should have good shoes, especially in this climate,"
This climate?  Are we talking winter?  New York?  Let those in California, Arizona and Florida wear flip flops?
The celebrity, Rupert Everett.  Problem for me was I was thinking media mogul Rupert Murdoch long into Roger's Inman article...  I skim...
Rereading the Inman article thinking of an actor saying the snotty things in a British accent about properties and people … (2 comments)

Is Localism fully functional yet... - 03/02/09 08:21 AM

Is Localism fully functional yet?
Just wondering..
Just wondering in part because of a comment on a post I wrote on February 21, 2009.
The comment by Jonathan Washburn*  Comment #28  says in part:
"I am very confident Localism will be fully functional this week.  It was a much bigger project than we expected, but we have been working very diligently on it and believe it is getting close to reaching the next level. As it stands today it is getting a lot of consumer traffic; I just believe it has a lot of room to grow."

Capital Area Humane Society - March - 03/01/09 12:39 PM
March is adopt a rescued guinea pig month according to a newsletter from the Capital Area Humane Society  newsletter.
The Capital Area Humane Society  site says:
"Did you know the Capital Area Humane Society has small "pocket pets" for adoption?"
I am not a big fan of "pocket pets" personally.  They give me the heebie jeebie... I had a white mouse for a short time as a kid. It died.  I get hamsters, gerbils and guinea pigs confused.  Guinea pigs are the bigger ones right?

Guess who's coming to Columbus? - 03/01/09 11:31 AM

I saw it on the news last night.
Maybe you did too.
I saw on Channel 10 News that President Obama is visting Columbus for the graduation of the police recruits this week.
"Obama Agrees To Attend Police Recruit Graduation"
The recruit class was set to be laid off because of the economy.  Then the recruit class was saved by President Obama's stimulus package.
Channel 10 says the graduation is tentatively set for Friday?  I would bet they are going to have to be specific.  The article says:
"Police recruit graduations are typically held at the Columbus police Training Academy, … (2 comments)
