The special exhibit at COSI opened today and runs through September 7, 2009. COSI’s LOST EGYPT blog on the COSI website gives lots of behind the scenes info on this world premiere event in Columbus. View Larger Map "Location, location, location" is one of the best descriptions of the Worthingway neighborhood in Worthington Ohio . I've anchored the Google map here on Masefield Street the farthest west street in Worthingway. The south end of the Worthingway neighborhood is Highgate which backs to Medick Estates. Worthingway is a pretty location. Tucked back off of High Street but a lot of the appeal of the neighborhood that was built in the 1960's has for buyers and long term owners is the convenience to schools, Old Worthington, parks, the bike path and more. Brookside Woods homes - 05/24/09 05:48 AM
Brookside Woods homes are in the Worthington School District... unless of course they are in the Dublin School District. The school districts were minding their own business... the land was sitting there... or maybe there was corn or soybeans planted there... I did not move to the area until 1990, I am assuming that northwest Columbus area was rural in the late 70's... early 1980's... Brookside Woods is not the only City of Columbus neighborhood along Snouffer Road that some homes are in Dublin schools, other homes are in the Worthington school district. The school districts pre-existed the development

Buying a home in Central Ohio should not be scary - 05/11/09 09:33 AM
Buying a home should not be scary for first time home buyers or others.... Long ago it was customary for all agents in a transaction to represent the sellers. In Ohio at the first appointment you should be provided with an Agency Guide to Relationships by the real estate agent. It provides their brokerages agency policy. It is a disclosure. If you contact the listing agent, you know of course that they are representing the seller. No surprise there, right? If you visit a builder the builders representative is looking out for the builder's interest. You have the right

Central Ohio Open House Advice - 05/09/09 05:48 AM
Real Living's Advice to Buyers on Open Houses includes this question: Q: I've heard that visiting an open house without my buyer's agent means s/he can't represent me in my home purchase. Is that true? A: Perhaps. Understand that Real Living is a company with brokerages from the east coast to the west coast and one size does not fit all. Laws vary state to state and customs vary market to market. Maybe rather than "Perhaps" it should be "Depends." Real Living goes on to say (I corrected the spelling) of Realtor: "Real estate rules of representation may prohibit you

Real Living HER Open Houses - Mother's Day 2009 - 05/08/09 10:53 AM
There are only 94 Open Houses on the Real Living HER list now. Search for Central Ohio Open Houses on my website The number of open houses will probably go up before Sunday...although Mother's Day traditionally is not a big day for Open Houses. Happy Mother's Day to all Mothers. Wonder if the dog will even remember... (I am not a Mother except to an adopted canine and of course the step-cat.) Enough personal info back to Central Ohio Open Houses... last week on my Open House post I wrote: "It is NOT a big Sunday for Open Houses

UPDATED - NEW on ActiveRain Outside Blogs? - 05/07/09 07:27 PM
Look at your ActiveRain "My Home" in the left hand column.... All the way at the bottom. Do you see what I see? Be still my heart.... Trying NOT to get my hopes up. People have asked for it.... I had it on my RealTown blog that I have stopped posting to. Used it a lot. It's on WordPress.org blogs... I use it all the time. That poor blog has been neglected because I am so excited about one of my Outside Blogs. Dare I say it. Will we be able to schedule content to post in the future on

Creeping Real Estate Acronyms - 05/07/09 10:40 AM
In this age of TARP (toxic asset something or other) and other new acronyms creeping into jargon each day, is it becoming harder and harder to talk to one another? I was using BPO in a conversation with a past client recently... more than once. He had to ask. Mea Culpa (forgive me.) What is the Columbus MSA? After posting a couple of posts about home values recently I wondered if everyone reading would know what the Columbus MSA is. Some will. Some won't. MSA from Answer.com include Medical Savings Account and Metropolitan Service Area. I always thought it was

Columbus doesn't look bad; Zillow's NOT calling the bottom nationally - 05/07/09 06:35 AM
Columbus is one of the 161 cities in Zillow's Index, of course. Spencer Rascoff of Zillow wrote of the ZHVI (Zillow Home Value Index): Sorry to spoil the party, but we're not at the bottom! ... Zillow is not yet calling the bottom of the home price drop. Zillow is different than the numbers that Realtor.com, the Ohio Association of Realtors, Columbus Board of Realtors or really anyone else put out. Those are based on home sales. The Zillow Home Value Index is based on ALL homes. Well almost all. Do you get it? Zillow makes their proclaimations of value

Sorry to spoil the party, but we're not at the bottom! - 05/07/09 06:30 AM
Feb. 2013 CLOSING comments on this old post because of SPAM. This is a Re-blog of Spencer Rascoff COO of Zilow post about their recent report of US Home Value Appreciation for the first quarter of 2009. I have a post that will focus on Central Ohio (the value of homes in the Columbus MSA) written and ready to go.... real estate is local. Via Spencer Rascoff (Zillow): There's an interesting thread in Zillow Advice right now discussing whether we're at a bottom in the housing market. And the discussion is very timely because today Zillow released its 1st

This is a photo from March 1940 of the northwest corner of the intersection of Park Road and Galena Road from Don O'Brien's series on Flickr. Mr. O'Brien who posts photos on Flickr as dok1 . Please visit his Flickr photo stream to walk the Worthington Streets in a series of photos he took in the 1930's and 1940's, growing up in the Worthington area. This would have been way out in the country back then... He wrote on a photo showing the Methodist Children's home on High Street, that it was in the country north of Worthington. The north

This is a Re-Blog of a post from Justin Williams a loan officer in Virginia Beach VA. If the property you find is a great other than "___________." You can do "__________." Central Ohio's best real estate search? - 05/06/09 09:28 AM
Well maybe not best but what search do you use to find local homes? This post is written to consumers not the real estate industry or real estate social media gurus (as both groups might be biased!) Use more than one? Vote for more than one... you can vote to up to six... hopefully you are NOT trying to use six searches to find local homes.... Online Surveys & Market Research I first asked the question, long, long ago in 2006 on the original Columbus Best Blog (name later changed to Discover Columbus) a Realtown blog... Sesame Street Worthington OH 43085 - 05/02/09 08:17 AM
There is no Sesame Street in the Worthington OH 43085 ZIP code... or Columbus OH 43085 for that matter. I used Google Maps to be sure. Wouldn't Worthington area neighborhoods be easier to sort out if they weren't all named Worthington? Remember "One of these things is not like the other..." Just in case you don't remember here is song from Big Bird.... OK the big bowl of bird seed....is not the same as the other three. You knew. "You are so smart!" Swine Flu is at level 5 Worldwide It's all over the national and local news, it's all the buzz on Twitter... sounds like business is up at emergency rooms, clinics, doctors offices. Remember you can't get Swine Flu from eating pork... Signs of Swine Flu: Sneezing? Chances are it is just seasonal allergies... Muscle aches? Chances are it is a normal bug Head-ache...? Fever? Diagnosis With everything you're hearing on the news maybe you should see if it is more than seasonal allergies or a normal bug though. "(btw: if you want to check if you have swine flu, here’s

Tasteless commercial or just ill-timed... - 05/01/09 06:51 AM
The name is being change from Swine Flu to H1N1 Flu. You can't catch this flu from eating pork... no matter what it's name is. There is still only one confirmed case of Swine Flu in Ohio? or two on an official map from the World Health Organization. The local news says there are suspected cases in Franklin and Union County. People are flocking to emergency rooms in Central Ohio, or so last nights local news made it seem. I probably would NOT have noticed these White Castle Commercials if not for the news being Swine Flu all of the time.
