Powell Ohio - Halloween - 10/31/09 07:02 AM
Powell Ohio - Halloween 2009
Powell is one of the Central Ohio communities that has 'Trick or Treat' or 'Beggars Night' tonight.
I had it wrong on my Central Ohio Trick or Treat  post I wrote  that Powell was Trick or Treating on Thursday night with Dublin, Worthington, Columbus, etc.  It all started with confusion about when Trick or Treat was in Lewis Center...

Worthington haunted or just historic - 10/31/09 06:13 AM

Worthington haunted or just historic?
Haunted Worthington
Worthington is old.  Worthington was settled in 1803.
I had a client tell me once that a house had to be haunted since it was so old, that it had to have had someone die in it... The house was not in Worthington, it was on the northeast side of Columbus, I don't really even think it was that old.  Same era as Clintonville I believe.  It's all relative.
Worthington had a number of cemeteries...  Walnut Grove is one of the newer "graveyards."

Columbus, Ohio 43235 homes for sale - October 2009 by Maureen McCabe Real Living HER Worthington

43235 is a northwest Columbus ZIP code. 43235 is sometimes called West Worthington.  Prior to the ZIP codes creation in the late 1980s, the area was part of the 43085 ZIP code.  ZIP codes are just mail routes!
There are neighborhoods in the Columbus, Ohio 43235 ZIP code in the Columbus, Dublin or  Worthington school districts.  The school district boundaries existed before this area was developed.

Westerville's history - 10/29/09 07:42 AM
I was trying to find something about Westerville's history and ended up on the Westerville Libraries website.
Westerville has such an interesting history, the Underground Railroad, the temperance movement and the Whisky Wars including the Anti-Saloon League...
Sometimes I think Westerville has a much more colorful history in many ways than some of it's Central Ohio neighbors.
What I was looking for about Westerville was....  I was thinking  Westerville was having a birthday.  I keep thinking that Dublin and Westerville are the same age....  I thought Worthington was settled in 1803 and Dublin and Westerville were settled in 1810.  I was … (0 comments)

Dublin Ohio's ghost stories - 10/28/09 08:46 AM

Dublin Ohio's ghost is mentioned more in the spring than the fall.
Ghosts and witches are usually more Halloween than May or June but the spirit of a Native American  who lived where Dublin has been for almost 200 years now is often blamed for rain during the Memorial Golf Tournament at Muirfield.
The Dublin Historical Society shares three stories about Chief Shateyaronyah who was called Chief Leatherlips by the white settlers.
Some would say the Wyandotte Chief known as Leatherlips haunts Dublin.   The Dublin Historical Society has an excerpt from an Associated Press newspaper article in 1997 that tells … (2 comments)

Dublin's Bicentennial - 10/27/09 08:21 PM
Dublin's Bicentennial - Dublin Ohio will be 200 years old in 2010.
Dublin's This Week Community Newspaper's  Residents will help tell city's story  by Jennifer Noblit says the theme is "200 years. One community. Endless possibilities."
Dublin is looking for “Shanachies”   story tellers.
If you are reading this from afar don't let the cities name fool you.  It was not settled by Irish people, story tellers or not...  The man who surveyed the area for the early settlers was from Ireland and was allowed to name it for his home town.   That never stops Dublin from celebrating all things Irish.

'Fine Lines' is at 657 High Street in Worthington, in Old... Olde Worthington. The story goes the building on High Street just north of the Worthington Inn was built in 1890 as a general store.

Have you ever noticed IOOF on the top?
Independent Order of Odd Fellows?
International Order of Odd Felllows?
I found both "Independent" and "International" as descriptions of what the I in  IOOF stands for on the internet.  A fraternal organization?

Columbus Ohio the Santa Maria - 10/10/09 08:58 AM
Columbus Ohio the Santa Maria has been parked on the Scioto River since 1992.
I visited the Santa Maria in September 2009.  I don't have any kids...
I visited the Santa Maria on Talk Like a Pirate Day 2009 in September.
The Santa Maria in Columbus Ohio is the most authentic replica of Christopher Columbus's ship in the world.
How do I know that?  A sign at the Columbus "floating" museum in downtown Columbus told me so.  I believe the Santa Maria website (link above ) does too.  Yep

Columbus Ohio - Why do we celebrate Columbus Day? - 10/10/09 06:35 AM
Why do we celebrate Columbus Day in Columbus Ohio?
This was originally posted on Discover Columbus (a different blog) back in 2006... but it's name back then was Columbus Best Blog.
Why do we celebrate Columbus Day in Columbus? Because it is Columbus Day.  Because we are the biggest and best Columbus in the US,  Wikipedia says so.  Because until the state of Ohio changes the name of the state capital to something politically correct and oh so catchy like "Indigenous Resistance" we will remain Columbus Ohio.We are just one of many US cities named Columbus after Christopher Columbus, an … (0 comments)

Selling your Central Ohio home - it starts with your mailbox - 10/07/09 07:55 AM
Selling your Central Ohio home according to '101 Ways to Prepare Your Home For Sale' it starts with your mailbox...
Not YOUR mailbox but mailboxes in general.... according to this little book they (mailboxes)  gotta be nice or buyers won't look at your house,  it is a place to start...
Words of wisdome from this little book I bought at the Columbus Board of REALTORS store? Making your home attrractive to buyers all starts at the street if you've got a mailbox "on the street."  Central Ohio is kind of a mishmash of urban mailboxes on the house or rural mailboxes … (3 comments)

Fall Garden Planning - 10/07/09 02:57 AM
Our Central Ohio leaves are starting to change.
Sharing some gardening inspiration from June Piper-Brandon a Maryland real estate agent.  This is a Re-Blog!

Via June Piper-Brandon, CRIS, ePro, Broker (Advance Realty Anne Arundel Inc.):
Fall is a special time in the garden.  I personally love the fall, love the cooler weather, crispy days, the bounty of the summer labors and most of all I love the fall colors.  But don't put away your garden tools just yet.  Fall is the perfect time to plant cool-season crops and get a head start on the landscaping for next year.  And, if you … (4 comments)

Get ready for change America.
This is a Re-Blog of info from Ki Gray.

Via Ki Gray - Austin Real Estate:
Most of us have them in our homes. They still innocently line the shelves of grocery and home improvement stores by the thousands. But all that will change by the year 2012. As reported by NBC Nightly News recently, Europe is in the process of phasing out incandescent light bulbs and America will soon follow. Last year the European Union reached an agreement that included 27 countries across Europe to ban the manufacturing and importation of the good ol' … (4 comments)

In NAR it's time to make a move on Move Jonathan shared history
History of REALTOR.com (Excerpted from Realtor.org website)"In November 1996, the Board of Directors of the National Association of REALTORS® approved an agreement between the REALTORS® Information Network (RIN)—NAR’s wholly-owned subsidiary--and RealSelect, Inc. to take over the operations of NAR’s official Internet site, REALTOR.com. ActiveRain Rainmaker 5 easy steps for frustrated listing agents! - 10/04/09 06:41 AM
One of the rules of the Realtor group on LinkedIn is don't post your listings. It's the first rule on the group which is all REALTORS®.
I did not read the rules...  but I did not post a listing either.  It says:
DO NOT post any of the following - if you do, you risk getting your membership in the group revoked: 1. Specific properties for sale.
There are more DO NOTs.  Three more rules I believe.
The REALTORS® group (National Assn of Realtors) on LinkedIn is for discussing issues with other REALTORS®... privately.  There are no consumers to see … (65 comments)

LinkedIn - A flood of listings - 10/03/09 05:08 PM
Are you part of the NAR group on LinkedIn?  National Assn of REALTORS®
You have to give them your NRDs # and wait for them to admit you to the group?  Or maybe that was on Facebook. I know I was annoyed but it is a group just for NAR members.
The people moderating the NAR group have got their work cut out for them.
Members (12,928) With less than 13,000 members in the group but getting close,  a number of the National Association group members believe the purpose of the LinkedIn group is to post their listings.
