Why do we celebrate Columbus Day in Columbus Ohio?
This was originally posted on Discover Columbus (a different blog) back in 2006... but it's name back then was Columbus Best Blog.
Why do we celebrate Columbus Day in Columbus? Because it is Columbus Day.  Because we are the biggest and best Columbus in the US,  Wikipedia says so.  Because until the state of Ohio changes the name of the state capital to something politically correct and oh so catchy like "Indigenous Resistance" we will remain Columbus Ohio.We are just one of many US cities named Columbus after Christopher Columbus, an … (0 comments)

A Spanish historian says the man we know as Christopher Columbus was really named "Pedro Scotto,"    Isn't Pedro the Spanish name for Peter?  Peter the Scotsman?  
A  holiday web page about Columbus Day tells the traditional history we all know and love. Or hate as the case may be.  The 1492 history that I get totally confused.  Was the explorer in question Italian and sent to the east by going west an Italian sent by the Spanish or vice verse?

Only one more day left.  The Columbus Italian Festival runs through 8:00 PM today. The Columbus Italian Festival does not run through Columbus Day, Monday.
The Columbus Italian Festival is at St. John the Baptist Italian Catholic Church in Italian Village.  The church address is 720 Hamlet St, Columbus, Ohio.
We went late afternoon Saturday,  great food, great music, great people watching.  The music is not all traditional Italian music or big band music.  We listened to Yumbambé  a band that does “Afro-Cuban Jazz and Salsa” as well as traditional big band stuff like  “When the moon hit’s your eye like … (0 comments)

The 2008 Columbus Italian Festival starts Friday and runs through Sunday.
St. John the Baptist Italian Catholic Church sponsors the event yearly.  2008 is the 29th annual Columbus Italian Festival.  The event coincides with the Columbus Day Weekend, which is celebrated as Experience Columbus Days in Columbus Ohio.  
Simply Italian is the theme for 2008

Columbus Day is celebrated on October 13, 2008
 
Columbus Ohio celebrates Columbus Day with a full weekend.
This year  Experience Columbus Days in Columbus Ohio is October 10 to the 13th. 
Special admissions (50% off for many, or buy one get one free)  should be a reason for locals to experience something they never have before... or can't get enough of... and for others to visit and play in our backyard at venues and events like:
