I miss Art Blanchet.... This a Re-Blog of his post from his Talk Like a Pirate Day 2008...post titled "Talk Like a Pirate Day - But Which Pirate?" Art had already been talking like a pirate for a few years and he knew lots of movie pirates. I saw a pirates wandering around Downtown Columbus on Saturday, I did not get as far west as the Scioto River but I walked around Independents Day a bit and so it seems did pirates. Local pirates? Pirates visiting Columbus for the weekend? It was "Talk Like a Pirate" weekend at the Santa Maria,

downtown columbus: Columbus Urban? Suburban? Xurban? Rural... - 10/20/09 12:33 PM
Columbus Urban? Suburban? Rural? - by Maureen McCabe* That Xurban thing confuses me... The Xurbs are outside the suburbs? I noticed this quote on Missy Caulk's (Ann Arbor MI ) blog post... Don't tell me it can't be done. "When we get piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe, we shall become as corrupt as Europe." Thomas Jefferson Bear with me Columbus while I digress Jefferson's quote was among a bunch of other Jefferson quotes on Missy's blog.... Missy's post has a political message... you know it's kinda that whole arming bears thing. Political Science? History? Maybe

downtown columbus: Columbus Ohio's Haunted Ship - 2009 - 10/14/09 06:23 AM
Columbus Ohio -The Haunted Ship The haunted ship is of course the Santa Maria at Halloweeen time. According to the Santa Maria website: "The Haunted ship is held October 29. 30 and Oct. 31 from 7-10 PM" The Santa Maria website says: "Once a year the Santa Maria, a full size replica of Christopher Columbus’ flagship serving as a history museum, turns into a Pirate Ship." Or two, maybe three times a year if it will get people aboard...we went to see the Santa Maria on Talk Like a Pirate Day in September... I believe the 2009

downtown columbus: Scioto Audubon Metro Park - 08/31/09 07:21 AM
Maureen McCabe Scioto Audubon Metro Park is unique because it is just a mile south of downtown Columbus. We went to see the newest Columbus Metro Park on Sunday August 30, 2009. View Larger Map The Scioto Audubon Metro Park and the Grange Audubon Center is right on the Scioto river, west of the Brewery District and German Village. A point of reference for some although I am not showing it in the photos here? The Columbus Police Department Impound Lot is at 400 W. Whittier Street, or actually the facility on the Whittier Peninsula is the City's Parking Violation

downtown columbus: Columbus Clippers - Cleveland Indian's farm team - 09/18/08 12:41 PM
ESPN / AP is reporting that the Columbus Clippers will be the Cleveland Indians Farm Team for the 2009 season. I heard it first listening to the radio, on local news first. No news of it yet on the Clippers site. The new Huntington Park baseball field is opening in Spring 2009. According to the AP story the deal making the Columbus Clipper's Cleveland's top farm team is for 4 years, 2009 to 2012. The Columbus Clippers played their final game at Cooper Stadium earlier this month. The Columbus Clippers were a farm team for the Washington Nationals most recently

downtown columbus: Downtown Columbus is a nice place to visit - 08/01/08 08:01 AM
Today in the Columbus Dispatch... an article about City Center the downtown Columbus mall that the city wrestled away from the company that was mismanaging the mall a year ago. When I moved to Central Ohio in 1990 I loved City Center. I lived in northwest Columbus just inside 270 and tried Northland and Westland and for me the only place to shop in Columbus was City Center.... I am not much of a mall shopper anymore... I was at Macy's at Polaris last night but did not make it out into the mall from the department store. In May

According to Wikipedia's Red White & Boom entry: "Red, White & Boom is the name of a number of annual fireworks shows in the United States, held on or near July 4 to celebration the nation's Independence Day.
